I worked with a guy that drove for Roadway before the merger. He was out of Dallas. He was 132 on the board and was slowly but surely moving up the board. After the merger, he was somewhere in the 700s. He left after that.

I hope you are 23 years old. Having to work 4 years to gain 1 year in retirement, you will be able to draw a pension around your 123rd birthday. Oh wait, it's supposed to be bankrupt in the next ten years. Like pay cuts?

My dad was the chief steward, dyed in the wool union man, for about 20 years. Yellow bought Roadway, summarily screwed it all up, and he stayed till he made 25. They cut his pension, mom told him to get out and draw it while he could. He called in sick his last week of work, resigned as chief steward and hasn't looked back. He's headed to Texas right now in his own truck pulling open deck and doesn't regret leaving for one second.

Wait...are you saying that happened to you?! Because most of us have heard that story. In fact, I recently overheard a coworker of mine tell that story to another driver. It's a classic.

From now on, all NYC threads should carry a warning about what the cops are likely to make you do in the event you can't make a turn due to an illegally parked car.

Get to know your shop steward, any questions or problems he can probably address for you. YRC is not the premium job it was, but you can do much worse. Good Luck

I always wondered why all of Yellow Freights trucks were painted orange.

There's a story about that. Something about choosing that color for visibility.

Correct International Safety Orange. Yellow was originally started as a taxi cab company and the owners of the taxi cab company thought orange was a safer color then yellow so they went with the color orange.
