1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

Yup, we need drivers, too.

So, I deleted what I was going to put up here (I even thought my ad was pretty good) and decided I'd just let you know my thoughts on our company (so you know, I'm not just a recruiter, I'm also the HR/Safety Manager). Some of this might sound good to you, some not so good. But, I'm guessing you just want the truth, no spins, no BS, so here we go.

What kind of drivers do we hire?

OTR refrigerated drivers (WA to mid-west*), Local/Regional refrigerated drivers (must live in the Yakima Valley), and Local/Regional Flatbedders (must live in the Yakima Valley).

*Best areas for home time for our OTR drivers: Yakima, WA; Indianapolis, IN; Minneapolis, MN; Omaha, NE; Chicago, IL.

What we look for in a driver
We want someone who cares. Cares about the customer, the equipment, safety, their co-workers, themselves, and the company. Someone who knows what it takes to be a real truck driver and understands that the world of trucking isn't black and white, but all kinds of hues of crazy sometimes. We want someone who can drive a manual transmission truck in a world of automation. We want someone who will talk to us about how things are going, where we can improve, and what is awesome.

    Safety
We expect our drivers to operate safely at all times. Our Inspection Selection Score is 27 as of this week and BASICs Score are excellent.

    Pay
We aren't the highest mileage rate out there. We know you can find other companies that pay more per mile. If you have 4+ years experience, you'll be paid 37 cpm. You can also earn a 2 cpm bonus each month.

I'm not going to sit here and try to convince you that you will make more money here than anywhere else, but we get quite a few return drivers who have accepted higher mileage rates and come back because they don’t get the miles they are promised and end up making less.

Your checks will be on-time and won't bounce. If there is an error on your check, we will fix it.

Days on the Road and Home time

Our drivers average 8-10 days on the road each round (some runs are longer, some are shorter). For those who live nearby, they can go home after each round, or recap and keep running. For drivers who live far away from our terminal, we work with them to find a solution for home time.

We operate on a “34 and out” policy. Basically, once you’ve done your 34 off, we need you to be ready to go back out unless you've made pre-arrangements with us. A lot of times our drivers have 48+ hours off, but there are times we need to get the truck moving. And yes, we work with our drivers ahead of time to try to give them more time if that’s what they want or need.

We work hard to get you home when you want to be home. Does it happen every, single time? I’d be lying if I said yes, but I can tell you that our dispatchers do everything they can to get our drivers home when they need to be home.

    Healthcare Benefits
We have some darn pretty good benefits including medical, dental, vision, life/accidental death/dismemberment. We pay 75% of the employee’s premium for medical (our employees pay $118.89 or $163.83 a month, depending on the plan they choose). Dental, vision are paid in full by our employees. We provide $25,000 life and accidental death/dismemberment to all our employees and you can buy up to $100k of coverage with no medical exam (or even more with a medical exam).

    Retirement

Our 401k plan is better than most. We offer 100% match up to 4% of your eligible earnings that you contribute. That in itself is great, but we also offer our plan at 90 days. Other companies have plans where you have to wait for a year or more.

    Equipment Maintenance
Our equipment, both tractors and trailers, go through rigorous preventative maintenance. Every tractor and trailer is meticulously maintained so there are as few problems as possible out on the road. When a major issue happens, we have a huge network of shops that take care of us quickly so we can minimize your downtime. (And yes, we pay breakdown pay when on the road).

We have a very talented group out in our shop who take pride in keeping our drivers on the road without as few breakdowns as possible.

What it’s like to work here
You are going to be expected to get loads delivered on time and use your hours wisely. You’ll also be expected to recap your hours when you can. You will sometimes do a “turn”, meeting up with someone else and taking their load back to the mid-west before you get to the yard. Other times, you might have to wait an extra day to get loaded. You'll be expected to come into the office when you get back to the yard so we can have some "face time" with you... we like to give everyone the opportunity to talk about how things went and how you are doing, check in for with the Wood Shed (our compliance department), check to make sure everything is good. We are very much like a family and we do our best to take care of each other. We sometimes bicker, but in the end, we all have each other’s backs.
