Ascend should change its name to Descend. Let me start from the begining. I am a 30+ year experienced tractor trailer driver who worked for Magnolia Windows in Baldwin Ga. I have a clean mvr and an exemplary safety record. I loved the job I did and planned to retire from there in spite of all the changes. After a few years working there Magnolia sold and became Westlake. There were negative changes but were minor. Then a few more years pass and Westlake farms out the Class A fleet to DTS out of Greenville Sc. They absorbed the fleet of daycabs and 53 trailers leased from Aim. We ran daycabs because of some of the tight places we delivered to. While the pay stayed about the same, they started replacing daycabs with sleepers. While I managed to keep my daycab, now I had to pay for meals and motels out of my paycheck, then get reimbursed where as before we were given a credit card for fuel, meals, and motels. On top of that, you now had a second hand dispatch system which was like playing secret circle in elementary school. Well, a few more years pass and DTS sells out to Descend and that is where the corporate Monster(as in bad not as in big) really comes out. The pay went to about half, the corporate bs went through the roof and became a joke of the trucking industry like Swift or Jb hunt. Instead of being structured like a pyramid, it is now inverted and will eventually collapse under its own corporate bs weight. It is now hiring unqualified drug rehab and driving school graduates that can't even drive a 10 speed, yet their safety dept fired me for hanging my hat over the inside AI camera watching the driver. I have no problems with outside facing cameras for liability reasons but I do have a problem with Artificial Intelligence studying my every move. I guess the corporate heathens don't understand what what the beast is in the Bible. Well, I guess they gonna find out the hard way on down the road.
Cons
You will probably be as well off going to work for a laughing stock like SWIFT. At least they pulled the cameras out of their trucks because it was increasing their liabilities.

My experience very unprofessional. Equipment that I received was very unkept Hood latch was broke couldn’t open, Heat and air did not work. Washer fluid leak, coolant leak, if you call Breakdown they will give you a hard time. Mechanics didn’t do jobs right. Miles was very low. Not good company.
Pros
I don’t have good things to say because I didn’t make good money there.
Cons
Low pay low miles and not good equipment. Weekends can’t contact anyone, have to wait till weekdays.

They started off ok, but gradually keep changing things making it worse for the ic. Drop and hooks are nice but to many live loads where you sit for hrs. Would I recommend this company to other independent contractors? NO! After 2 years here it’s time to for me to go somewhere else.
Pros
Picking your own load
Cons
Same crappy loads for ic, company drivers get more miles then ic, 1100-2100 ic, company drivers 2000-3200

I was completely ignored by both my manager and senior developer except for a meeting a week. I was terminated without any warning while openly trying to get help for health issues that were affecting my work.
Pros
Work from home, benefits are available
Cons
Not friendly for people with disabilities
