If I could give this company 0 stars I would but I have to at least mark 1 to make this review. This company… 1.) Does not give you the proper tools to do your job. Meaning decent safe trucks to perform your job adequately. 2.) when your truck is broke down, take a spare truck then that one is broke down and after that no other truck avail so you sit around waiting for a call to tell you when your truck is fixed (sometimes 5-7 days) but they want to deny you pay and come up with whatever bs reason not to pay you. 2.) notorious for playing head games and coming up with new rules or rules that support their argument with whatever. 3.) border line harassment 4.) straight up dishonest 5.) no one in management cares about you driving an unsafe truck, listening to your valid concerns, about getting home on weekends/holidays or even Dr’s appointments that were put in for and improved month or so ahead of time 6.) they deny everything agsin coming up with whatever new bogus rule or insanely sounding excuses they see fit or to support their bs lies or to screw you out of money, etc etc 7.) they say you get vacation, but try taking it bc they make you feel horrible or complain about it or flat out refuse after it’s been approved for months 8.) majority of management are all in this sick game and total disrespect for drivers making it a miserable place to work and making drivers feel like they have no voice and can’t do anything about it. 9.) everytime you go into the trailer, same people are eating constantly. It’s grazing all day long and that’s important than taking time out to take care of drivers needs. 10.) you call to let them know about an issue and told I will call you right back but don’t call you at all leaving you stranded, etc etc 11.) total 100% unprofessionalism at all levels on almost every aspect of this job. 12.) total disrespect for drivers 13.) ethics is a huge concern at Cassens 14.) short freight 15.) almost like they enjoy drama and chaos and always starting it or promoting it. 16.) always always always writing majority of drivers up for whatever they can and appears they get enjoyment out of doing so. Write you up for the most redic things I have ever heard of. I honestly don’t know how they get by with 1/2 of it but apparently upper management doesn’t care and approves their games as well. Seems majority of their work load during day is writing up and giving reprimands. I don’t know how anything really even gets done bc of all the reprimands. Their job duties can not be completed or completed correctly or in a timely manner bc of all the redic unfounded reprimands. 17.) so many redic rules that they come up with as they go 18.)Def play favorites 19.) drivers can not make their daily guarantee but I can guarantee you one thing… they make their daily guarantee with the multiple and I mean multiple reprimands for majority of drivers 20.) did I mention total lack of respect for the driver, if your sick, fam sick, or even if your in hospital, they still don’t care and make you feel terrible leading to anxiety and other health issues *Do NOT apply here or think about working here bc you will experience exactly what I mentioned above. If you do, you will see 100% what I mentioned above is LEGIT! Dont say I didn’t warn you!! Do yourself a favor and bypass this company!!

Pros

None’ literally none. I can’t think Of one!

Cons

All of it. I already mentioned above. Currently employed but getting ready to gf out!

Very good job. Not for everyone but if you like the work it’s good. Except insurance great pension. No dock times. The truck gets loaded and unloaded in the time you do it. Not by someone on a forklift at there pleasurable time. Equipment does have some issues but all trucks do nowadays. If you’ve ever done any other trucking and know all the bs that goes with it then you would realize that this is the top of the food chain in trucking. Those who #### and maybe an about it need go work somewhere else for a few months. Guaranteed they be back or wishing they hadn’t left. It’s not perfect by no means but where is?

Pros

Home time. Money. Insurance. Pension Load unload at your pace. 95000 a year Or more. Depending on how hard you work

Cons

It’s is carhaul. There’s gonna be work involved. Winter is tougher. So. Toughen up. Sometimes dispatch and managers aren’t always in your favor.

Management does not care about what you have going on. Even an approved vacation or time off. Equipment is garbage, and that is being nice. The mechanics do not know/care about doing their job correctly. Weekly home time, but comes at a cost. Weekly pay is good, but fighting for all your breakdown pay will take months. You fight for months over a hundred or less. Just to have them try and settle for half. The equipment is garbage. Even brand new 2025 trucks don’t make it 3 loads and they get sent back to the dealership. And the company wants you to pull a un-roadworthy truck off the fence and drive it.

Pros

I do not have any. Edwardsville needs to really reevaluate their company.

Cons

Everything. Company is to greedy and doesn’t care about their employees/drivers. Drivers make the company 100% of their money. Every other employee costs the company money, yet they treat their drivers like ####.

After 85+ years the Company remains in operation and privately held by the family. Given the nature of the industry with rising costs and stagnant, at best, rates from the manufacturers, a very slim profit margin has been the norm for decades. Yet they still meet all financial obligations and are constantly updating their fleet. Are all trucks new? no. Is everyone happy? no. Find me a place where they are. But those in leadership roles operate with the long term stability of the Company as the focus and thereby work to preserve the jobs of all employees. All locations have different traffic patters as dictated by the customer, and the freight is dispatched in accordance with the rules & regulations as set forth by national and local Teamster contracts.

Pros

Top pay, excellent benefits not just for the employee but the entire family. One of the newest fleets in the industry. They manage their growth very cautiously with long term considerations and financial impact on the entire network in mind. Those who have worked for other auto transport companies have learned that the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence.

Cons

You can't make everyone happy, and no company is perfect. There will always be a certain percentage of employees who are not pleased and find a reason to complain. The biggest concern would be that, while some at the corporate level have worked at the terminal level, most have not and do not have the perspective and understanding of those in the daily operations level.

How often you are home is a direct result of the type of terminal operation you are working out of. If you are based out of a railhead, the traffic is generally local to out around 200-300 miles. They would run local and shortline type of trips. Home every night or day if they run local slipseat and maybe out 1 or 2 nights a week on shortline. Or work from an assembly plant and you could be out all week. Or they may do round robin type dispatch where you load from your home domicile deliver, go into another terminal load/deliver, go into a 3rd terminal load toward home/deliver.
Keep in mind, in a union barn, seniority prevails. The bottom drivers get what is left over. I know in this age of entitlement that may seem like a tough pill to swallow, however a new driver has to suck it up and pay their dues so to speak.

Q: So cassens has some sleeper trucks then? Or do they put you up in a hotel all the time?

A: Any Cassens trucks I see in Ontario are always parked in the Hotels... I see them in Oshawa,Ont all the time at the hotel not far from my house... I have also seen them in other hotels as well... Most of time that I see them they have 2-3 guys parked in the hotel... I have yet to see any cassens sleeper trucks....

Working out of Detroit you are "probably" going to be running short or local for a while. Even when you run the road you probably won't be gone more than a couple nights at a time, once you learn the job and can load and unload in a reasonable amount of time. In my opinion the worst case would be working night slip seat and having to drive back and forth to the Detroit area daily and working at night. You should ask them if this is what you will be doing, just in case that type of schedule isn't for you. Some terminals there are senior drivers who like working nights and pick these jobs and other terminals they have to force the bottom drivers to fill those spots because nobody wants them.

cassens transport anyone??

Good luck to you. Cassens is a solid company. Stick with it and you will not regret it. There will be a day or two that you think about packing it in, don't worry about it. All of a sudden it all "clicks" and you never look back. Carhauling gets into your blood.

Do any car hauler companies hire and train a driver with 6-11 months OTR experience?

If your driving record is clean and you don't change jobs every year most good companies will train you.

I recommend Cassens in Smyrna.

Cassen's, H&A, or JC??

If you're in the Nashville area I'd go with Cassens. There in need of 5-6 drivers.

Smyrna doesn't have junk equipment. There one of the best shops we have. And even there dispatch has good paying traffic.

Cassens is the last traditional family owned Auto Carrier left. They have survived as a family entity thru many down economy trends including the last one in 2008 that put the rest on the skids. They must be doing something right don't you think?
