I’ve been leased to Landstar since 1999, and like any long journey, it’s had its ups and downs—but the positives far outweigh the rest. Over the years I’ve pulled vans, stepdecks, and RGNs, and met a lot of good people along the way—some retired, some passed on, all part of what makes this company what it is. Leasing to Landstar isn’t for everyone. You’ll need to be independent and use your survival skills at times, but that’s the nature of this business. The difference here is you’re never truly alone—there’s always support when you need it. After all these years, I can honestly say Landstar has given me the freedom to run my business my way, and I’m proud to still have the star on my door.

Pros

Freedom to run your own business Strong support network when needed Access to diverse freight options Reliable pay and settlements Long-term stability and reputation

Cons

Slow periods require self-reliance Success depends on your hustle System can be complex at first Limited benefits compared to company drivers Not ideal for inexperienced operators

Starving here. Too many drivers not enough loads. Trailers are in bad shape. They keep leasing on new owner operators when there isn’t work for the ones already here

Pros

Home all the time

Cons

No work

Trailer maintenance team are most dumb and inefficient. Log Department people are McDs rejects. Most agents don't speak English. Zero operator support. Really gone down hill in 15 years. I work twice as much now to make half the money I used to make and never go home. I'm headed for the door, and I do not recommend them at all.

Pros

Pick your loads: where and when you want to go. No dispatcher.

Cons

Too many foreigner agents. No support. Mostly bad rates. They #### you for 35%. Most everyone in corporate is really ignorant. Log department.

Good company, you do okay, You can do better somewhere else tho. LS hire,s Way to many O/O so it’s really hard to book loads here, LS Agents sell LS loads to outside carrier,s to make more money, A lot of 3rd & 4th party freight LS Agents use C.H. Robison & T.Q.L. Logistics, 80% of LS loads are all broker loads very little direct customer freight anymore, LS claim,s best of the best in drivers & agents , That’s not the case anymore. LS likes to hire paid off lease & company drivers who went O/O & hold there hand every step of the way.

Pros

Its “ Yes or No “ when you call the LS agent, Mostly NO everytime cause they keep the load on there LS board days later after it’s been booked..

Cons

In the real world of Truckng calling a real truck broker, you talk about miles, weight, money, fuel, expensive NOT Yes or No or Please Hold

I enjoy pulling for Landstar. if there's an issue with one of their trailers, just call and it gets fixed. They let you know if anything is needed on your part as an O/O like compliance issues. You book your loads, so you determine your home time. plenty of freight.

Pros

you choose your freight and where you want to go

Cons

Home Time
Equipment and Maintenance

Landstar Questions

There is no per mile rate, just percentage. If you pull van( you didn't specify) you get 65% of the linehaul. If you own your own van, you get 72%. If you take a few days off, you keep the trailer. If you're going to take 3 weeks off, they will most likely send someone to get it and you'll go find one when you come back out. There are terminals in IL, TX,, IN, FL, GA,PA, and I think NV. Some agents have their own private yards. Landstar is just the corporate middleman, all of your work comes from agents.
