Terminal manager has zero leadership experience and it shows. Has absolutely zero care for any employees well being, lives or even safety. My first day I was guilted into working 36 hours straight. Luckily I got an “orientation” for the Walmart account, but I’ve personally seen many drivers sent out with zero orientation Walmart accounts. I’ve been told by Marten shop staff “why don’t you stop doing pretrips and work like the other drivers”. Dispatch frequently uses very misleading language and sometimes complete lies, like sales people to get you to drive into bad weather or with not enough drive time. If you’re in a home daily position, it’s a go out and if you’re lucky or unload the truck yourself at every stop then you’ll get back daily scenario. Many times I’ve had clear issues with the truck, all check engine dash lights on, truck shaking, etc and road service says to keep driving as long as it’s not derated. Also said to drive for miles to a shop with a completely flat tire. It could take weeks for the shop to finally fix an issue and while management/dispatch gives you attitude if you act like you feel unsafe to drive the truck. If your truck is luckily being repaired, there might not be another truck to drive or if there is chances are the brakes, engine brakes or other systems don’t work. Working at a Walmart “no touch” job is a complete lie, because you end up unloading 80%+ of the stores with a manual pallet Jack unless you want to wait an hour+ at EACH store and run out of time and make no money. Marten management is aware and doesn’t care and does zero to help with any Walmart store issues. Many drivers that worked here for years have left for the same reasons, and majority of the remaining drivers have the exact same issues. If Marten cares, simply ask all of your drivers at this terminal about this stuff.

Pros

Some dispatchers were nice

Cons

I could write a book

Everyone thinks they know scummy and evil just wait until you get a dispatcher that doesn’t keep. His word skims money off your check and doesn’t care about your salary. I’ve had three different managers the first upon hire was the best but he quit bc of the political situation going on. I which they forced the vaccine on them. And he declined. I’ve got into numerous arguments because I don’t take kindly of anyone talking to me as if I’m dumb. They are scary compulsive nerds that hide when it gets hot over some messages. I’ve tried to sue this company and no one will take the case because of how well they can hide their scammy acts. Don’t have enough proof but take 500 out of my check each week claiming I didn’t get my minimum because of a late trip confirmation message that I can’t control. Don’t work here there will screw you and make you homeless like me. And no attorney will do anything to help you.

Pros

Trucks are nice no forward camera Park anywhere you want.

Cons

This company and their CEO are extremely unprofessional he went out of his was to try to shame an employee he fired less than 72 hours after the termination the company didn't even bother telling the driver they were terminated they let a tow truck operator inform him then abandoned the driver out of state with no way back home and no way to take their belongings from the truck of course said they could book a Grey hound bus for them out of the driver's last check which still provided no way to take their personal belongings from the truck the company never offered anyway to retrieve these belongings after being contacted about it and the CEO sent a letter stating that he guessed a large sleeper truck was just to big for this experienced professional to handle and he would be getting a bill for payment since the termination was due to cutting a turn to close at a packed truck stop and clipping another truck trying to bill an employee for damages to a company vehicle is illegal the theft of my property was illegal I do not recommend this company to anyone whole vaules themselves as a human being and doesn't want to be needlessly degraded the dispatch was awful and never had it together or checked when you were even on the clock and HR is extremely rude and unhelpful.

Pros

I thought the pay was fair at first

Cons

Absolutely everything about this company is a red flag

The pay is only guaranteed until you get tired of wasting time chasing trailers that don’t exist and say no more. I drove 4 hours round trip looking for a trailer that wasn’t there. Spent a few more trips running around looking for trailers that weren’t there. They have gps on the trailers so they know where they are. After realizing that I refused to chase trailers and they stopped guaranteeing my pay. You will not make more money than the guarantee and if you’re not a favorite they’ll keep giving you the same crappy stops that nobody else wants. After you stop doing favors they’ll start jerking you around.

Pros

Not enough to mention

Cons

Too many to name

they purposely act ignorantly to set their drivers up. they tell you to manage faulty equipment instead of fixing the problems . I was driving their truck in a heavy rains so one of my windshield wiper broke so I pull over to the nearest truck stop call their road assistance but they told to continue driving a semi truck in heavy with no wipers to repair shop to go get it fix but I declined this and I told them" if they cant bring down the road service to my location I am not moving the truck" which they later did but since then I became a bad employee to because I did not yield to their set up. Most of their driver that have accident maybe traced to set ups of operation.

Pros

sweet talks

Cons

THEY JUST WANNA WRECK YOUR CAREER AS A DRIVER . DRIVERS DONT GO THERE.

My former trainer went over to Marten back in January and according to her she loves it. She mostly runs Southeast and manages to get home every weekend.

Marten Transport. Some of the newer Kenworth T-680s and Freightliner Cascadia Evolution models are autos, with manual models in the mix. I wanted a manual transmission in either a Freightliner or a KW after they sold the T-660 I drove but HQ said I had no choice and gave me an auto.

Q: Do they have a cap on detention?
I see some of the same drivers come in and out of our DC. I don't think they do that many outgoing, they bring more in. But I see some of them posted up there overnight sometimes.

A: The cap is 9 hours. Only a few times I've sat like that but I was paid layover with Max detention. Sat 32 hours once. Max detention and got layover x3. That was a 2320 3 stop load. $1800 run week that week all because the first stop screwed up lol.

Marten generally gets regional drivers on the west coast home for a 34 after 10 to 14 days out. Thats how it was when i was there. Not enough HT for me. If you came from a big bottom feeder then marten is better.

If it's less than 100 miles or so they pay you hourly at $20/hr or $25/hr.

Detention is $20/hr after first our for company drivers and $25/hr for O/O. Stops are $20 per stop

Q: I'm checking this company out to see if I can get on Walmart Dedicated. I'm in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, but I have seen a Marten truck at the Walmart here.

Just wondered if anyone has done this dedicated run. I also wondered if I could get an automatic with Marten.

A: Yes you can just tell your recruiter YOU WANT AN AUTOMATIC! To my knowledge, all automatics are Freightliners.

What reefers does marten have on their trailers?

What reefers does marten have on their trailers?

They have both TK's and Carriers. Majority is TK, but they do have both.

Most tks are sb400 whispers though newer ones are precedents. The carriers are slowly being phased out. Only significant difference is if they run out of fuel the carriers are a little easier to bleed. They have a bleed valve. Tk you have to have a socket to crack a banjo bolt. Precedents have electric fuel pump.

Feedback on Marten Transport 2015?

Marten pays you for your time. You drive. You get paid miles. You sit, through no fault of your own, you get paid detention/layover/average-daily-pay. I know drivers that rake in $1000 a week from sitting. One of my Marten friends jokingly say "Did you get your welfare Po yet?"!!! Marten is serious about the value of a driver's time. Some dispatchers are tight-wads about it, but most follow the rules.

My friend David netted $958.50 on this check.
