Family owned and operated. It’s a decent company but the Barnesville terminal is not a good terminal. It is mis managed and the mechanic focus is on firing drivers. There is no fixing trucks you run it till it breaks. If you do have problems and you try to take your issues to hr they will manipulate the situation and people around them to see things their way rather than what is really goin on and the narrative will no longer be about your problem but about you as the problem. When you do reach for help inside the company they will demote you and take your position from you. They will dock your pay and not call you out for work. If you are looking for work do not work for the Barnesville terminal.

Trucks are governed at 65, were told a yr ago they were being turned up to 70, some of the new ones are but the older trks are still65, they expect you to shut trk off to sleep when it is hot out, the maintenance is a joke, trucks go way over service

Pros

Pay not bad, good home time, get choice of loads

Cons

Trucks poorly maintained, underpowered, run Japanese tires.

Poor management and they do not have the drivers back. They will cut ur pay if u take issues to HR. Everything is kept a secret from the corporate office and if u bring it to light no one has ur back. They will punish and chastise u.

Pros

Close to home

Cons

Mechanic and manager know nothing about trucking

This is probably the best trucking job I've had. I'm sure some details will vary by terminal and job, but I've been very satisfied. I run regional and usually leave out Monday morning, returning home Friday afternoon/evening with possibly 1-2 nights home during the week. Occasionally there will be a delay loading or unloading, but they pay detention without issue. The pay has also averaged out better than I was originally told to expect. Benefits aren't the greatest, but they're there, insurance options and 401(K). The biggest complaint I have is the trucks. They're spec'd relatively well for creature comforts, but are lower power and are mostly governed at 66, though some are being increased to 70. Running bulk, we usually are grossed out and I don't expect to run up a hill at the speed limit, but I've been pulled down under 15 MPH before and am often under 40 in 65-70 zones. There's never any trouble getting problems fixed and the shops work hard to keep the trucks and trailers in the best shape they can be.

pay depends on what loads you did. Dispatch is by seniority. I was road board and my take home was about 900 to 1100 a week but i had high enuf seniority that i generally had my pick of loads. I left to do my own thing being i no longer agreed with their policies. They have vorads and rollover and if it goes off they write you up. They also have dash cams and if you cross center or shoulder lines without turn signal they write you up. Logs must match quallcom no if and or buts. That what pushed me out the door.

R&J trucking, Boardman Ohio anyone?

They haul a LOT of residual waste solids off the drill rigs out here too. Seems like a good gig, the drivers I meet on the rigs seem to like what they're doing. Lots of night and rural to offroad driving, though, as well as getting stuck behind slow-moving water trucks.

First off american bulk commodities is the main company. John brown has been part of the company for years and southern haulers are the Alabama boys. Was with r&j for 8 years, left for more money hauling tanks. In Cleveland area still driving mostly 07 macks. Maint on the trucks is put a band-aid on it and run. There CSA score tells it all. Look for something better.

R&J trucking, Boardman Ohio anyone?

Worked there for 8 years as an otr driver out of boardman. I made some very good money there. Over 70k a year. But that was before they went electronic logs. R&J is the parent company. When they bought John brown and southern haulers they formed American bulk commodities. I left because I had bought a truck and went to pulling tankers. I'm actually waiting for an opening at R&J to open up and take my truck over there again. If they don't have an opening soon for an oo I'm going to go to either bones or us bulk
