Company is going under soon. Grandson took over, the only son of a billionaire and people no longer matter under his watch. He has been replacing his workers with immigrant labor both drivers and office staff who are paid far less and stripping benefits away from all employees. Taking a vacation will get you fired.

Pros

Quick hire for immigrants

Cons

Middle Eastern family controlled. Have no use for veterans or older workers.

The equipment is horrible, the management is toxic, they offer referral money then dont pay it. Just stay away from Universal. Worst decision I've made regarding employment.

Pros

Terminal was close to home

Cons

Management, Dispatch, employees, client and equipment. Just a trash company that needs to go bankrupt.

As a owner operator they will force you to take the bad trips and if you refuse they will charge you, they do not pay extra for having to pick up chassis miles away and then having to get a container only the load amount. Don’t waste ur time applying here

Pros

Zero

Cons

Unprofessional dispatch

Started working for UACL whis the same as universal logistics holdings. Came on board for a lease purchase. As a Flat bed And overall I am not content with everything. I thought UACL had dedicated customers. But they don't. They go by load board. Cheap load board. That you make from 2,000- 4,000 a week. Minus all fuel cost, truck payment, trailer rental and other deductions. That you take home 300- 800 dollars a week. And dispatch is awful.. oh and minus 25% so you take 75% of work load. I don't recommend anyone to come here. Or you'll go broke.

Pros

My agent is awesome.

Cons

No money to make. 75% doesn't work anymore. 90% of work load need to get paid in order to continue owner operator.

Company is a total fraud. Didn’t make more than a few hundred per week every week though we asked for work daily, their agents had little to no work but would lie and try to hold us over. Do not waste your time. There is no way to earn the bonuses after the initial one and they will come back for that if you don’t stay 6months - 1 year even though you can’t survive making no money.

Universal is a decent company. I have a good friend who has been leased to them for several years. He initially had a difficult time. Once he built a relationship with a few agents, he has been doing very well. The last 3 or 4 years he has made over $200,000 to the truck. He pulls a flatbed. He works the load boards and also utilizes his agent contacts. Regardless of whom you lease your truck, it takes time to learn their system. He used to run quite a bit of Canada freight. One run he would usually reload at the same place where he delivered. Those loads paid him $3/mile to the truck. He averages over $2/mile for all miles run.

I guess he is a company driver. I have been leased to them about 5 years, they are a stand up company.
My suggestion is to move up the chain.
Squeaky wheel gets the grease. I know it is a pain, but hold their feet to the fire and get everything in writing.
I'll call them tuesday and say something to them about it. I'll get back with ya when they give me a reason for holding this up.

I've run for both ASF and universal and ASF was by far the better conpany. I left them when frieght died last year and went to Universal. Huge mistake.

Universal has never fulfilled their suggestions of "too much frieght" or the classic "$2500 take home weekly." Try $600 take home weekly.

Run away from universal, may as well run for jbhunt, at least they don't nickel and dime you like Universal.

Not to mention, you pay for faulty equipment. So if a trailer tire blows, which anyone who hauls containers knows is common, you pay out of pocket.

Universal Intermodal? ???

After coming from another Harrisburg Intermodal co. being with Universal for the last 6 mo. the difference in big considering they pull out of the same yards and in most cases they share same customers. So, after doing a comparison based on settlements, not word of the mouth. Universals pays more and they have an amazing team that's really been great to work with.
