If the fuel is $0.20 cents more per gallon at Peelot/Flying Funk, that 'free' shower just cost you $10 bucks for 50 gallons. Might as well pay $10 bucks less for the fuel and pay for the shower or bum/barter one off another driver. -
If you join NASTC you can get a fuel card for 100s of truck stops including all petro's and TA. You will get prices cheaper than the discount fuel stops plus be able to get free showers. They will send you an e-mail with the fuel prices daily and also an e-mail @ 0930 daily telling you if fuel will be going up or coming down after midnight. You will get a booklet with all participating stops. Many of the small mom and pop places are in the network. they will bill you weekly for what you used the past 7 days. If you have poor credit you can get the card and pre-load it I have been using it since October and save $20 - $40 per fill up plus get free showers. Yesterday TA in Mobile Al had fuel priced at $3.85 credit, $3.76 cash. I paid $3.62 per gal for 200 gallons. It does cost $250 per year to join but I made that up in just over a month.
scottied67 and losttrucker Thank this. -
Are there any other fees with it? We get charged a $1.00 every time the card is swiped. Difficult to get all jazzed about $0.06 off cash price knowing the kinds of discounts the old carrier I was leased to got and what most companies are getting.

You have to be careful buying at a place that offers fuel 15 cents cheaper than nearby. It's often because they sell so little diesel (why?), and fuel is advancing, and they are selling fuel (STILL) that was dumped 2 weeks ago and holding the price until the next load's price.
Older facilities have older tanks, many may or may not have trash and water accumulated in them. If you decide to chance it at a low-volume retailer, I would recommend NOT filling if they are receiving a load as you are pumping ... (all that trash at the bottom gets stirred up as the fuel dumps off the truck) Also, in wet climates such as La and FL following floods, many poorly designed tanks might take in water during a flooding situation.scottied67 Thanks this. -
Yes. 2.35 per month

That doesn't seem too bad. Do you have statements with pump price versus your discounted price. Have you figured it up on a monthly or quarterly basis what the average pump price was that you saw versus the discount you got in the same time frame?

Some states, Az. for instance require trucks to fuel at truck pumps, because diesel tax is not paid at "car" gas stations.

Only used the car pumps once. That was the day we came this close --><-- to learning the hard way that the fuel gauge in the new truck wasn't working. The good news was the Shell around the corner had a 14 foot canopy and not having to walk the fuel out in 5 gal cans.

How do the guys with the local gigs get away with driving their Ford 1 ton with 110 gallon diesel tank in the back to the 'car' gas station them pump it into their big truck?
