So I read through quite a bit of this thread, not all of it but quite a bit of it.
I read that you guys go to somewhere like "Michael's Foods" in Elizabeth, New Jersey (or something like that). Some others also mentioned that there are at least several other regular New Jersey stops that you guys go to pretty regularly as well.
Are these New Jersey stops usually drop and hooks or live loads? And regardless of whether they're drop and hooks or live loads, does dispatch plan for you to pick those loads up where you'll still have about 5 hours left of driving time so you can actually find parking? Are the New Jersey loads usually during the daytime?
Because parking is terrible in that part of the country and I will not park on streets or somewhere that's not a secure lot or an official place of business. So are they giving you more than enough time to get out of the area heading back west to find parking?
And does Magnum reimburse for paid parking or no? Even if they didn't I would still pay for paid parking if I had to but even then I would still need at least around 4 hours of drive time to even get to a place that had parking outside the area.

Michael Foods in Elizabeth is always a drop/hook, at least it was the handful of times I went there. The other 2 places that I can't remember the names of were always live loads, but I never sat too long on them. One place is a bit of a hassle to get into depending on time of day, because you have to pull into the empty lot across the street and back across the street to get into the dock, no way around that. And it's at a 4 way stop that's fairly busy during the day. The other place is fairly decent. But then there's this other place...Hall's I believe...where you have to go a specific state-mandated route to get there, which is easy to miss if you've never been there and the directions you're given are a bit...fuzzy, but if you look at it on Google maps it's clear as day that there's a straightforward way in, but going that way is like, instant ticket. They're a live load, as well, but loading times are iffy at best. I've heard tell that there's a hotel close by that one that allows truck parking, but I have no 1st hand knowledge of this.
As far as having time to gtfo, a lot of that falls on your trip planning. I would always make sure I had a preplan out of there before I got halfway there, so I could plan accordingly.Speed_Drums Thanks this. -
I looked it up on Google Satellite View. I'm assuming they don't want you to go through the neighborhoods, which is the route Google Maps wants you to go down. So I'm guessing:
1. I-287 South
2. Exit 5
3. Left onto Stelton Road
4. Right onto Hamilton BLVD
5. Left onto Clinton Avenue
6. Right onto New Market Avenue
7. Left onto Lakeview Avenue
8. Right onto Maple Avenue
9. Right onto Front Street which turns into Metuchen Road
10. Left onto Kentile Road
11. Left into the facility
Just going off Google Maps Satellite view and seeing where the trucks are on what roads and how this route avoids most of the residentials, I would assume that would be the way in if this is the warehouse you're talking about. If not disregard this post lol. Obviously I'de get directions from PeopleNet (if you guys have notes in there) or call the warehouse myself first.
Good to know they trip plan you where you will have some driving time to get out if you trip plan accordingly. Can't say that being in New Jersey a lot and the Northeast (which New Jersey is a part of) sounds very appealing though.RubberDuck473 Thanks this. -
They're really a great company. Get to pick your outbound loads from Fargo/Coon Rapids most of the time, plenty of time to make delivery on most loads, they're easy to work with if you have issues, pay is good, miles are good. My only complaint is the 64mph limit and the lack of southwest freight. They have a few long runs if you can get your hands on them. I had a back-to-back long run once, Dallas to Burnsville (I think) WA, then p/u in eastern WA going to Atl. That was nice. And there's the soda load from the Chambersburg PA area to WA. Every once in a blue moon you might get a load from up north somewhere to FL, but they try to save those FL loads for drivers who live there to get them home. Chicago is more of a challenge than NJ and you will be there many more times than NJ
If you call the number for Hall’s Warehouse on the bills, there are detailed directions on the best way into the site. It’s really not that hard.
Michael Foods was always a D&H but their drop yard is an adventure with all the low bridges around it. I know I went under two 13’5” bridges… but the guard that gave me directions assured me I would make it….Speed_Drums, BeHereNow97, Goldenfan and 1 other person Thank this. -
Yeah, the route to that drop yard for Michael's was an adventure my 1st time lol. I came up to that 13'5" overpass and hollered WTF!? Told myself "well, there's only one way to find out!" And crept under the overpass, even ducked my head down just in case lol. Glad it was 2am when I did that lol

Is the 1k and 3k that you just mentioned in addition to that 3k, or was the 3k sign on bonus for company drivers only for new drivers and not for ex-drivers?
I would have just assumed the 3k sign on bonus would have been for ex-company drivers who had left the company too, but maybe that's not how it works in the trucking business (I've never had a sign on bonus before)?
