It’s ironic because going OTR to different companies in different parts of the country with all the isolation, is clearly, objectively harder than my job yet I make at least 30% more than they do and get to sleep in my bed at night. If you find the right gig, local is where it’s at.

If you like local work...for me, I wouldn't last a week as a local driver...I would be a loco driver. My 1st company I drove a daycab and was home nightly and hated it. When they offered me a sleeper truck I jumped on it in a half of a heartbeat and haven't looked back.

It is. I just won’t work for a company I have to ‘earn’ time off.

My company is the same way. “Earn” your time off. Here’s how it goes with me, “I’m going home for a week” Then I hear “you’ve only been out 2.5 weeks” The reply is priceless, “I know”. Been like this for the last 5 of 9 years.

Snackbar and my company is two days for every week out banking up to 12 at a time. That was recently announced, shortly after I took 18 days off and we paid my full salary. If you’re productive they don’t really care. Hell I only worked half the month and still put down over 7k miles with three resets. Our “goal” is 9900 miles per month.

Well this just proves my point. A lot of variables that's not provided for the driver. Let's take a look at some.

Our professional drivers’ long-term health and wellness are vitally important to us. Our comprehensive benefits program offers superior medical, dental, and vision coverage for you and your family. We also offer a matching 401K, rider program, and various other benefit offerings.

    Better Benefits

Other things to look forward to:
    • Full health benefits package (first of the month following 30 days employment)
How much is it going to cost the driver?
    • Paid life insurance
    Ok
    • Dental & vision insurance
How much is that going to cost the driver?
    • 401K with company matching
Matching what? Why can't they at least let the driver know?
    • Vacation Pay
What is the vacation pay? How is it calculated? Again, the driver needs to know.
    • Discounted gym memberships
The only gym that most drivers see is the one that they drive by. Look around at any Truckstop to see how fit some of these drivers are.
    • Wellness incentives
What is that? What does it even mean?
    • Rider Program
This sounds like another way that the company will take money from you. I'm very suspicious of this. I know that it probably has something to do with their insurance.
    • Unlimited driver referral bonus
They wouldn't have to pay a bonus to anyone if they were a good company. Think about it. If the company is that good, they would have drivers lining up at their door to work for them. I had to wait almost 1.5 years to get into my company. 3 people retired and I got in. That's what a good company should look like.
    • Opportunity to obtain experience and grow into other divisions of the Oakley Family:
      • Citrus & Sugar Cane
      • Dry Van & Reefer
      • Tanker
      • Dry Bulk Tanker

    Gearjammin' Penguin Thanks this.

I don’t work for Oakley but my company’s responses are in bold. That’s what this thread is about.
