Latest on USA Truck

I haven't driven in 12 years and I'm getting back in the industry, starting over in a sense. How's USA Truck these days? I haven't seen much about them, I know I'm in a prime spot for them being in Shreveport, LA. I think they have a regional route that would get me home every weekend. Home time is big for me because I have young kids at home. What is your experience? How's pay? Equipment? Average mileage? Any and all info is appreciated. Trying to make the best decision that I can.

 

I would agree with you on Marten being a better choice. The advantage for USA would be the home time. And they are paying 62 CPM. Just trying to weigh everything and see what the best fit is. Also, it looks like Marten would force CPAP testing, not thrilled about that.

 

I currently don't have any endorsements, although I have been wanting to get the tanker and hazmat. Looks like those companies here want more recent experience than I have. I figure if I can get at least 6 months experience then it change my options drastically around here.

 

How long ago were you there? Upon talking to the recruiter some more, it sounds like it may not be mandatory and maybe just a screening, I don't know. Either way, I think Marten would be a better option. It's weird the way it is set up though. A regional driver is 18 days out and 3 days home and OTR is home every weekend. Seems like it would be the other way around. They might have a good bit of drop n hook too that would alleviate the long wait times.
