Hey Dingy, whats your story? trucking for 2 years, how is it going? This is not a setup as I am genuinely interested. As the Corporal says we could argue back and forth all day long and I wondered where you are coming from.

well parkerr58, don't just read the negative threads then...
Most of the horror stories you read here are only telling a very small part of the story, and only from a disgruntled ex driver, or from someone who has NEVER worked for Stevens.
    Go here http://www.thetruckersreport.com/truckingindustryforum/stevens/97249-stevens-transport-aviary.html
    and here http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...97757-stevens-transport-a-year-in-review.html
where you will find current drivers discussing their lives at stevens.

Stevens is a training company, that if you are willing to put forth the effort, and learn their rules and policies, you will know how to safely drive a truck.

    parkerr58 and Corporal_Clegg Thank this.

Is it possible to be home every other weekend with Stevens? I was just curious because the Stevens drivers I have spoken with say they stay out for 3 months or more. I would get burned out doing that myself.

Possible to be home every other weekend, after you have put in your time. There are dedicated fleets that get the drivers home every weekend, every other weekend. for the first years you will be out 5 weeks minimum each time. Rookies do not get to be choosy.

Welll what can i say about them that hasnt been said already. i was working for them for 3 years as a trainer who would actually get into trouble for NOT selling their alliance program. i could not see students committing themselves to this program if they were married or in a relationship as you had to give up home time to make a decent paycheck. yes you can go home as often as you like BUT you will still have a truck payment and then you have to hope you get good loads to make up for it. as a trainer i was networking within the company itself to get my own loads and even then i was still only getting loads totalling 2000 mls per week as a finishing trainer who can run 1000 mls a day. i feel sorry for alot of the new drivers coming into the industry as they get the wrong impression of trucking altogether. if you are a new driver take one piece of advice........ AVOID STEVENS AT ALL COSTS.
i have so many horror stories that i could relate here i will gladly share them if you guys really want to know how they treat some of their drivers.
if you dont adhere to their strict and i do mean militaristic policies then you will not make alot of money

I do adhere to their strict policies, and I am not a trainer, and I make a decent living. My worst week, was 2200 miles, average for the year, 2492, including all the days off I took...48 days to be exact. I ran 130,000 this years.. I do not network, but use my DM as my point of contact.

Now I do agree, if you have a family that you want to see often, don't do the alliance program. Do not expect to get rich working at Stevens.. or in trucking as a driver.

You say avoid stevens at all costs, yet you worked their for 3 years, and even qualified as a finish trainer... What made you change your mind, and quit working for Stevens? And tell the truth.

I have to agree with you and as i am a wife of a trucker who worked for them i have to say i have been lied to also. My husband was to come home for christmas and they told him that he was supposed to work on the road until dec 24 and if he had done that he would have bee stuck in ny and not home for christmas. My husband was not able to come home every 5 weeks like they said he would have i would be lucky if i see him once every three months and i live in texas. now when i lived in Va i seen him every 6 months now what kind of married life is that? when he has time off with fam he gets calls asking him to go and do things and drive loads so that cuts into out time once again. Stevens has lied to their employees and their family and this compny isn't worth the time or effort to fill out the paper work. As far as how they treat people i can tell you they give you a load with good miles and then they take it away from you and give it to some other person and you get their crappy load you do it cause you need every penny you can get to make your truck payments, i have been told that some of the truckers that worked for them in the begining didn't even have a pay check they did even have money for food. stevens will take theirs and leave you with nothing and to me i would not work for a compny that was so cold that they don't even care about yall at all. They forget that if it wasnt for yall there wouldn't be a stevens transport they don't care about no one but the company and that is sad and that is why everyone doesn't stay with them.

i decided to quit stevens as my driver manager was not chasing up the work he was supposed to be doing and i ended up getting more mls myself. i understand there are quiet times but for 4 weeks continually i did not make any more than 3000 mls WITH students yet other trainers that had been there less time than me were running 4000 - 5000 mls.
i feel that as i spoke up and voiced my opinions i was targetted for being screwed over and deliberatly given poor loads ie 700 mls and 3 days to complete WITH student. if i did get a good load then when i got empty i had to wait over a day for dispatch on my next load all without pay as stevens changed their policy of pay when awaitng for dispatch. it used to be 24hrs but then without informing me i sat for 47 hrs only to be told AFTER i got my load that had i waiterd another hr i would of been elidgable for pay.
if you want more examples of their bad communication skills yet we as drivers are told from day one communicate communicate communicate!!!!! isnt it a 2 way thing??????? i can give dozens more examples if you really wanna hear
