Smith Transport perfect?

I too am leaning towards smith as one of my propects. I know you wanted to hear bad,but that's the thing---i havent heard any.

I talked to a former smith driver last year and she said you can get as many miles as you want over there. The only reason she quit is because her sister is a F up and she had to come off the road to support her by working local.

 

My husband drives for Smith, he's okay with it so far (3 mths), if you want to work - they'll work you. He can be home every weekend, but the money isn't there. No long hauls - he's mostly Ohio, PA, New York - east coast stuff. Approx. 1800-2300 miles a week (but don't go by my hubby only, he has some issues) Sometimes they'll throw in a long haul, Texas, Florida, but it's rare. Truck repairs are done in Roaring Springs, maintence is really slow - they (so far) have done what needs done - but plan on missing a days work to get it done. Black trucks aren't a problem, yet, air works really good. They really watch your log books, audit them all the time, if somethings not right , they'll send you a nice letter (hubby's gotten 3)! The one thing that is nerve raking now, someone on here once said, if a big company has to advertise all the time for drivers, it's not a good thing - Smith has advertised in our area for 4 months now - everyday edition! Can't tell you anything about the insurance, but I hear it's ok. Well that's all I can tell ya for now - if I hear of anything else - I'll let ya know. Best of luck!

 

I have been at smith transport for 5 months and let me say at one time they were great to work for
as for now think about this
they are lossing an average of 10 drivers a week
lyes bull and tall tales
im outa here as soon as I find a new ride!!!!!!!

Just talked to a smith driver last night, he was sitting down the street from the stop&shop whse in assonet mass, he was waiting to find out if he was going to have to pay for the boxes of stuff the lumpers wrecked when unloading, just to hear him say that made me nervous. He said it was good ther though and he was home every weekend no matter what, and said he was getting around 2200 a week.
