Tornado season is upon is. And for the guys (99% of us) that run in areas that tornadoes are prevelant, you need to realize that YOU are just as much in danger than anyone else. Those storms that hit Arkansas, Oklahoma and Kansas were just the beginning of tornado season. New drivers, when driving into storm systems, be alert and aware of your surroundings. There is a section here at TTR that touches directly on storms and weather. Read it. Learn it. And be safe. Tornados don't care if you're in a truck. Or at the truck stop, go back to Joplin,MO and Glade Springs, VA in recent years to see that. Let's make this a little place for the experienced drivers to tell you what to look for and help you understand what you need to do to be safe.
It started yesterday.

Turn on your cb and let others know if you see anything.
Last year I was in some rough weather in IL. I didn't know if I should keep going but info from oncoming trucks convinced me to stop and take cover.joseph1135, sevenmph, blairandgretchen and 1 other person Thank this. -
Watch the cloud movement and also sky color. Two big indicators of what's coming. Also look for an out. Look for a place to take cover. Bridges can be a safer place than your truck.

Had to run for the neighbors basement last night - no touch down.
Good thread, thanks Joseph.

we got hammered here last night in AR.. 16 dead so far, if there is no place to take over stay in ur truck. Get to the bunk area and buckle yourself in. Cover yourself with Pillows and blankets!!! the back will be much safer then the front of that truck!. if you stay in front get urself between that seat and steering wheel shaft area.. it will hop cover your upper body from stuff flying. Always look at the weather if you hear a train you better stop and take cover thats a tornado(if your not near tracks lol) i had a tornado go right by my house back in FL when i was a kid.. We got lucky only roof damage. Others lost there WHOLE home.. My best friend's where killed by the tornado...

Safety first guys and gals. Don't feel safe pull it over. Find a safe spot. You're worth more than what's in that trailer. Let it pass. You're not going to outsmart a tornado. I learned that lesson in 2009 in Nebraska.

Did he just say it sounds like a TRAIN...?

Started NC Sat morning, and the winds the other day through West of Memphis felt like Wyoming..
..and now I see why.. -
Yea and also keep in mind there may be more than one. I was in Louisville the night those three went through there in the 90's. It was a mess. A good idea is to get you either a cb with a weatherband or either keep your radio on if you hear someone talking about bad weather ahead. Course I think those in Louisville sneaked up on everybody.
joseph1135 Thanks this. -
Don't forget here on TTR there is a weather section where there is someone who updates storm maps, if I'm not mistaken he might be a storm chaser. Smart guy and certainly appreciated, if someone can link to those pages that would be awesome.
