I've had an issue with a truck I'm driving(company driver) going on about 3 weeks now. Been with the company 3 months. Truck was fine up until this issue. All of a sudden, I'm coming out overweight on my steers and not by a little bit. Whereas before, with the heaviest loads(45,000 lbs), I'd be right under 12,000 lbs on my steers, now, I'm always around 13,000 lbs. Even on loads that aren't as heavy, it still comes out that way. And it's weird because on the somewhat lighter loads, my drives can be like 30,000 and the steers will still be 13,000. The load has to be ridiculously light (such as a 10,000lbs load I had this week) for the steers to be under 12,000.
Sliding trailer tandems all the way to the front has little to no affect on the steers and my 5th wheel is already slid so that my tractor is as far away from the trailer as it can possibly be and this is the result, nonetheless.
The truck and trailer itself is not overweight on the gross. They're under 80,000 lbs. Just concerned about being overweight on the steers.
The company thus far is rather nonchalant about it saying that if I get any fines from weigh stations, they'll just pay it. No talk about fixing the issue with the truck. Vague talk about putting me in a new one, but no definite date on that. Meanwhile, they're still giving me loads to haul. My concern(the purpose of making this thread) is the question of whether or not getting caught in this predicament at a weigh station will negatively affect my commercial driver's license.
Thank you.

Your 5th wheels the problem, the closer the trailer to the truck, will put the weight on drives and take off steers, slide your 5th wheel foward

Only thing I can thing of is that your loads are being loaded with to much weight in the nose.
Also your legal up to 20k on your steers depending on tire and axle rating and what states your running.Dominick253 and ramblingman Thank this. -
Well you can weigh load if too heavy and u can't get it legal go back to customer and ask them to rework load or ask customer not to load you real heavy and why.Your company knows your trk is heavier then some of the others don't let dispatch intimidate you into taking heavy loads that you know you'll be over Wight and can't fix it.Its not worth stressing over with every load and wonder if you'll get fined. Also over Wight loads is an invite for DOT to do a level one.

Look inside your door and see what the sticker says your steer axle is rated for. That is your maximum legal weight for your steer axle.
Are your fuel tanks mounted more towards the steer axle or your drives?Toomanybikes and pattyj Thank this. -
Over weight tickets won't affect your CSA
Dominick253 and NoobiDriver Thank this. -
Slide the 5th wheel *back* away from the steers. Takes weight and moves it rearward. 5th Wheel forward puts more weight on the steers. Another things if where are the fuel tanks? If they are forward they will also put more weight on the steers, may have to run less fuel between weigh stations in other words wait til you cross the state line weigh station before you put more fuel on then burn it off before you cross the next state line weigh station. Takes intense advanced trip planning to do this.

what kinda rig are you in?

True but I sure as heck wouldn't wanna pay for the ticket because my company ignores me that I need a lighter truck. But I wonder how the other drivers deal with the heavier trucks.Plus shifting of the loads can cause an axle to be overeight.Tyson has some swinging meat they need hauled to Amarillo and trying to save money by only hiring two drivers but they'll need four because the load is too heavy for otr trucks.
