Well I can't say anything that hasn't been said. I do know one thing....a desperate man is dangerous. The question is whether it's to himself or others.

It’s sad how we’re an ‘instant gratification’ culture and nobody wants to save up for their goal of owning something. They want it now! Even at the usual cost of huge penalties and failure down the road.. Leasing is literally paying the company to work for them.

You leased a truck from them, you were not a company driver. Why would you expect compensation? Unlike some company drivers, lease operators do not get breakdown pay.
If I'm not mistaken, JCT charges you $0.19 - $0.25 per mile and $120 or so set fee. If you don't run any miles that week, you are only charged the $120 or so.

Again, you are a lease operator, that is your expense, unless the contract you signed says otherwise. You did read the contract before you signed it, right?
I thought you were eligible to get a new truck after 90 days. You stated earlier you were with them 3 months and was with them one month out west after you turned in your notice. Did they have any new trucks available right at the 90 day mark for you? Since you gave them notice you were leaving, they had no incentive at that point, to get you a new truck. The point there, is you barely met the 90 days before you gave notice.

Did you get the truck thoroughly checked out before leaving on your 1st trip? Drivers in our very own JCT forum have differing thoughts about that first 2 week time frame. Some want to run all the miles they can possibly get because there is no truck payment during that initial time and some want to use that as down time to make sure the truck is ready, so they don't have to go to the shop after the payments start coming out.

Best of luck in your new venture. For your sake, I hope it isn't another bad lease program.

yeah I was going to read all the posts on this just to see which way public opinion would sway it looks about 50/50 to me so yes like you rightfully comment the company has done nothing illegal is it not the driver that should do his due diligence first get a mechanic to check it out? No point then whining about a crap vehicle these days its just all to easy to blame someone else and not except responsibility for ones actions.

Trucking companies see these guys coming. The LP is the biggest hustle since three card Monty and it’s all perfectly legal. The contracts are structured to benefit the company never the driver. Next week there will be a fresh batch of down and out, broke and homeless people who just happen to have CDL’s, ready to sign on the dotted line.

It’s an unscrupulous business practice but it’s nobody’s fault but the driver. READ THE CONTRACT! If you still decide to lease after reading that contract then you deserve what you get. You gotta be weapons grade stupid to lease a truck

You know, I thought it would be a good thing to step over less piles of poop & pee while walking downtown. Well, that was until I had to do more of it doing a pre-trip at the T/S.

I agree you guys 100%, but it still bothers me that this whole scam is even legal.

Right! It’s basically predatory lending with subprime interest rates. Companies prey on truckers who have no business acumen, are uniformed and willfully obtuse to the dynamic of the truck lease purchase business. Nobody has introduced a bill yet that would outlaw this practice, probably because it’s a slippery slope and you’d also have to outlaw payday loans and other predatory lending practices. Still though their should be stricter guidelines that help prevent people from becoming victims. Invariably the responsibility rests with the person thinking about doing a lease.

Diligence is the operative word here

A victim? How is someone that doesn't want to do any of the hard work, like save money, pay their bills so they have good credit, take some kind of business training, and a list of other things that successful people all do a victim? Their not victims.
