You remind me of my sister. She's been searching for the ideal job for like 40 years.
The similarities are astonishing.

Oh Dave... guess you don't remember. I wouldn't have left Crete. They jacked me around for a total of 17 days in 3 months on repairing two things wrong with that truck. Those were wrong from when it was given to me. Before I walked. It was 8 days straight. I had enough. I walked.
Now the big shot apologized. Of course people will be saying; "Well He... well he..."... Well... the big shot said I did nothing wrong. It was all their fault. Asked me to come back.
I admit. I run harder to make the money. .... That new Freightliner of Crete's is an absolute Taj Mahal compared to this truck. But this one isn't bad. And I will be home in at the most, 3 days. If I'm tired of the truck living. Can run day runs if I want. Or overnight. Not so with Crete.
I also run almost days exclusively with this job. Not so with Crete.
Even though it is a typical small company. This guy is great. Like him alot.RidgeRunner731, dwells40 and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -

Well I found a small co by chance the other day and called today. Spoke to the owner, its flatbed and he runs wherever the $ is, but likes to have his drivers home by end of the week if possible. But I make more money being out about 10 days than doing a 5/2 schedule. Then there's the equipment...
2018 Pete 389 flattop glider with a 12.7/18spd combo. Behind it is a 2018 53ft aluminum Fontaine with all the bells and whistles. I saw it the other day when I passed by. She was pretty.
Pay is slightly better than what I make now and Id get to run more of the freight I enjoy out to places I used to run.
@D.Tibbitt, whats the recruiters name for your co? I need to give them a call too.D.Tibbitt, lovesthedrive and WesternPlains Thank this. -
Agreed, if I were to return to the road. 5 days isnt enough for a good haul.WesternPlains Thanks this.

Sometimes benefits aren’t worth it.
I worked for a guy who still owns 7 trucks and trailers, he didnt pay state tax, so you either sent it in quarterly or paid at the end of the year.
Then the state said “New rule!! For every $1009 you owe, we charge you an extta $100!”
You got no vote, but it passed unanimously, imagine that.
I still stayed until he quit letting the drivers dispatch themselves, Agree we had a couple who would be home every night, and take a load out and DH back, but in order to ‘keep the peace’ he handicapped everyone. I was the last of the original bunch of drivers he had, and drove the oldest truck and trailer he had, 2002 International 9900, an old green boyd bros truck.
It was turned to 475, with 10 speed, it did pull good, and was opened up speedwise in the computer to 108.
He reason, “The new guys won’t drive older trucks.”
So What they get a new Pete or KW and two weeks later both sides of bumper are AWOL or UA which ever you prefer.
Then I went tanker for 5.5 years, after 1.5 years bought this truck. I don’t give myself any benefits, used to have insurance until they raised my premium after they sold out to a different company, I never used it, so it was $65/month for 3 years until they thought I’d pay $165 and they thought wrong.
Moral of this story.
Benefits aren’t everything.x1Heavy and WesternPlains Thank this. -
I dont feel like getting under the bottom step and undoing main battery cable, it’ll ride with the lil orange light from now until the diode goes out before I do it, or change batteries, which are only about 7 months oldotherhalftw and WesternPlains Thank this.

There's an on-ramp I have to take when I run this fairly heavy load. Unfortunately there's a bit of an uphill that is not enough for eighth, but too much for ninth. So I end up using all of the run in lane and am still slow when I have to merge over.
For some reason, no matter how far I lean over the steering wheel, the truck just doesn't seem to accelerate faster. Then, the other morning, I realized my mistake.
I forgot to stretch out first. Next time, I should be able to almost touch the windshield with my nose, and I'm sure I'll gain a few mph.RidgeRunner731, Dave_in_AZ, x1Heavy and 5 others Thank this.
