so lately my partner and i have been getting mostly solo loads (like 200-500mi) often during after hours or when there's someone filling in for our dm. we finally got sick of it and decided to reject a 300mi load stating the reason being that we're a team. the guy filling in for our dm got upset and said you can't reject a load because they're all important.
now i get that they're important but is it true that we can't reject them?
question about load assignments

Are you a company driver or an O/O? Do you have a contract? What does it say? Personally, if that happened to me and a dispatcher told me I can't reject a load, I would have to prove him wrong.

It might also be helpful to know the company you work for.
Different company, different options - sometimes.Flat Earth Trucker, gentleroger and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
One that comes to mind was a load of green cowhides when I pulled a flatbed,
I Said No way!
So they wouldnt give me a load, sat for four days, I would call in, they offer that load, said no thanks.
On friday I called in, they offered that load, told them no, I was headed home, I deadheaded almost 800 miles to the house.
Went in on Monday and talked to the owner of the company, cleaned my truck out and got a better job.Flat Earth Trucker, theSoz, lostatroad and 5 others Thank this. -
After hours at just about any trucking company, mega to 3 truck operation, couldn't put a run in a pair of panty hose, let alone run a fleet of trucks.

ya gotta know when to hold em and know when to fold em. Know when to walk away...
Actually mr self important fill-in dispatcher, i can leave this truck at the airport and get myself a ticket home. Then you can explain why the load didnt get moved AND the truck is missing.
Its essentially an internal labor dispute. You dont get your way by saying yes. You get it by saying no.D.Tibbitt and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
Some companies have guaranteed minimum pay. That nice if dispatch every tries to play games. Most companies are forced dispatch. Can always try calling the dispatchers boss and see what he thinks. If the company does not have any loads then nothing they can do. But it not really slow that I hear anything like 300 miles for a team. That crazy

Worked as a company driver for a manufacturer that hauled its own products (private carrier), two rigs, paid by the mile. When we had excess loads to be covered, we had an O/O that would take them. The TM at the time always made sure that us two company drivers got the loads with the most miles.
Time came when we got a new TM that was buddies with the O/O and he started giving us the short hauls, while giving his buddy the miles. Well, I squawked about it and we got into a pissing match over it. His answer was take it or leave it. I left it. The VP of admin found out I quit, called me at home, and asked if I'd come see him. I explained what was going on in his shipping office, and I didn't believe it was right, he agreed. He straightened that problem out, and I went back to work. That TM and I actually became buddies, after awhile...Vic Firth, baha, x1Heavy and 1 other person Thank this. -
