That is true, but a different story. 65k and benefits ain't a joke if you can obtain it.Linte_Loco, D.Tibbitt, BackwoodsGA and 3 others Thank this. -
My neighbors small reefer LTL company just let 60 people go yesterday, 20 some of em drivers. Like i said hard times dont discriminate or give you advanced notice. Take what you can get while you can get it. One in the hand better than two in the bush and all that.

I haul refer. Started at .40 cents a mile. Only took 14 days home time during my first year and made $61,800. I had $3000 in bonuses in there though. At a year I was bumped up to 44 cents. No signing first year bonuses, but I’m on pace to make about $64,000 this year. And I’m taking a little more Hometime. Taking only 14 days my first year was kind of rough. I would stay out two months or so at a time.

That’s Got to be a piss poor run company then. Because all the reefer companies that I know of can’t keep up with demand right now and they’re getting higher rates than they ever have before. No I’m sure that will change as things get back to normal and people spend less on everything, but for right now during this hoarding and everything that’s going on, reefer companies can’t keep up. My guess is your friends company is probably getting ready to go under completely.D.Tibbitt and BackwoodsGA Thank this.

Be slow to assume.
Its actually been a rocksolid company with great pay and benefits.. I almost went to work for them but the schedule couldnt work for me. it delivers school lunches and sit down restaurant food supplies. Their customer base is being slaughtered by this BS and they are being proactive to keep the company alive. You cant just suddenly decide to become a long haul reefer operation when youve got a fleet of daycabs and pup trailers, with drivers who wont go otr and staff that dont know otr reefer markets. What they know has shrunk so they are shrinking. No one could have foreseen or planned for this.hallellujah, D.Tibbitt, beastr123 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Thanks for clarifying. I don't know about Lenny, but I read it as they were closing their doors permanently. Now it sounds like a layoff until school/restaurants reopen.D.Tibbitt Thanks this.

Yeah if they’re basically a local company, that’s a tough position to be in right now. I don’t see where there’s basically almost any demand for local drivers right now. Especially those serving the food and beverage industry. I doubt any reefer companies are going to be laying off their drivers that are over the road right now. It could come in the future but I don’t see it for the next few months at least. The demand is through the roof
D.Tibbitt Thanks this. -
I always felt that if you kept a clean record you'd always have stability being OTR. If you are local and from a smaller town you've only got a hand full of options and otr companies won't even touch you without being a student.D.Tibbitt Thanks this.

It’s an entirely different ball game being over the road versus local. The two don’t even compare. Over the road drivers, that’s a lifestyle..most don’t realize what a chance they’re in for going into OTR. That’s why companies don’t take them. They quit at a much higher ratesD.Tibbitt and asphaltreptile311 Thank this.
