"Load Cancelled" game...

To be fair, they did change the receiver window so that might have triggered the cancellation....
Still, scummy of them, but I really don't blame them either. Who would willingly give away money when someone else will race to lower the rates?

 

Just a question from a company driver that doesn’t understand this side of the business: Once the rate con is agreed upon and sent to you, it would seem like that’s a binding contract or something. Is there really nothing illegal about this sort of thing? That’s just the way it is?

I mean, I understand free market and everybody’s right to save a dollar, but seems slimy to me.

Happens quite a bit. This is why I never count a load until it's on my deck and secured.

One of the advantages to signing your truck onto a carrier with contract freight is that I get generally fewer cancellations due to broker games. Playing the Spot Market is like playing a volatile Stock Market. Yes, you can make some good money, but you can also lose your shirt.

Easy. Just call hot shot logistics, and send the original to him.
He has to take it, but then all the way he will know how much he lost on the entire ride.
Already he is doing it for around $1.15-$1.16/mile, but he’ll know what he could’ve got.
It’s not really him, it’s the broker FL rates are usually cheap, but I wouldn’t have taken it with a dry box, let alone a refer

 

Speaking as a devil's advocate, they cancelled it 8 minutes later, not when the truck was at the shipper already. It most likely did not cost the original carrier anything.
The very cancellation would not be as upsetting, if we did not see the difference by which the second carrier undercut the original rate.
Many of us would do the same in the reverse direction...when you offered $1400 more on the same lane by a by a different broker and they still have time to recover it.

That's still deplorable but it is what it is.

I don't know what reefers out of anywhere in FL to Green Bay, WI are getting paid but for a dry van this rate $1600 would be at least considered, and I guarantee you that if the consideration were too long someone else would beat you to it. This is not a lane on which you make money.
