    Hi everyone!
I’m a newly minted CDL holder who has no experience. I’ve identified Tankers as what I’d like to pull, but I’m flexible. Today, I performed a road test for a smaller tanker company who takes recent grads from approved schools, but my results were mixed and I was told I was “green” and that it shows. I graduated 3 weeks ago, so this was my first action in a while. I knew that I was “green”, but it seems to be a potential hang up for them. I’m thinking maybe I bite the bullet and go “Mega-Carrier” like Prime or TMC, or wait it out and hope if I’m picked by this smaller carrier, that I would receive the proper training time to “ripen,” so to speak. Or am I just thinking too much?

Did you test in a manual or automatic?

Well, that tanker company didn't give you a firm "NO" , so you may still be called.
    Where is your location?
What type work will you accept, or just want to get to work for now?

Flatbed work right now isn't great. You're gonna spend some time sitting between loads right now would be my guess.

Everyone is green when they start out. But if you show you have potential, you'll be alright. It's the dummies that good up all the little things, seem flustered and can't get it together that these companies want to weed out.

I’m in upstate South Carolina. I’m a Retail Manager by trade. I took a leave of absence to get my CDL. I’d like to find something soon before my leave runs out, which is next week. As far as what I’d take? I’d just like to feel safe behind the wheel. And I’d like Class A jobs, but I’d take a dump truck as well for the experience.

He did say I have potential, so we’ll see. Thanks.

Call him back in a couple of days and thank him for giving you a shot at the job. Then ask him for any advice he might be able to add.

Thank him again, and tell him that if anything changes that you will always be interested in hearing from him. Wish him well and say good bye.

If you are in the Texas area, you might consider Steven's Transport. They have an excellent program for new drivers, and they also have a separate tanker division as well.
