Understanding my pay

Not if you've agreed to be paid a percentage of line haul. You are an employee, why would/ SHOULD you pay owner's expenses?

 

You should only work for an o/o with a contract.,

 

The only correct answer is either what @Ridgeline said, or fill out a W-4 during the hiring process. Any other option is illegal (and the contract route might be illegal too, depending) and you need to leave before crap hits the fan.

 

Even if you fill out that W4, you should have a contract.

 

Drivers where I'm at get 22% of the gross income to the truck, they don't care about the net.

 

Impossible for us to tell what kind of deal you signed on to. Ask him.

I always got 25% of the gross.

Now, whether the gross I was paid on is really the true gross, it is hard to know.

Paperwork can be fudged, but I was happy with what I got paid.

 

Do you get 1099, percentage, or per mile?
I get percentage after all weekly cost of Fuel, tolls parking. And light maintance. Wipers, fluids yada yada. How ever, I dont
Contribute to major break downs or big maintenance. Such as radiators wipers motors. Wiring so on and so forth.
The man I drive for is very honest. With out me asking he sends me, every week with out fail. His income statement for the truck I drive. With my pay stub. So they is never any question.
My advise to you. Is just ask him or her straight up. Coming here and asking is good. As it won't cause tension between you and the boss. But only your check signier can asnwear that for you. Your a trucker if Causeing tension that will evently blow over is out side your comfort range. Well you haven't been out here long enough.
In all honesty it took me 2.5 yrs of driving before I finally had enough of worrying about someone's feeling.
Just be up front but not rude. I'm sure they will be happy to help you.
