Also If loaded you may not be as high as empty.
A bridge in Memphis ten on Norris rd says 13’4” but I been under it a ton with a box, good shortcut if someone goes crazy and you get away from 240 midtown back across to 55Flat Earth Trucker and truckdriver31 Thank this. -
I am more concerned with the idiot failing to give you room.
A little bit of luck there.
Some bridges are real scrapers. Elmira NY comes to mind.
There have been few that you get under loaded but not empty.201, LtlAnonymous, truckdriver31 and 1 other person Thank this. -
In Chicago off Stony Island and 95th St there's a bridge that's marked exactly 13' 5 but if you are loaded with at least 30k in a 13' 6 trailer the majority of the time it will clear ...now empty 13' 6 well that's a different story

Let me guess on 35 near downtown.

Air ride rides the same height no matter what, as long as the suspension has had time to pressurize or drop excess pressure as after you have adjusted the tandems on the trailer. Most have tolerance from the marked height, indeed, there were places that were marked 13 2 in Chicagoland that would clear a 13 6 and were used as truck detours when construction work was progressing on the Ryan.

I once went under a bridge in NY that had a sign saying the clearance was 12'5".
About 150 feet before the bridge is where the sign is posted. Faded white on brown and not very noticeable.
Slam on the brakes and I was a bit under it. Creeped forward and was OK.alds, truckdriver31 and Kyle G. Thank this. -
Axin' for a friend....icecold24k, alds, rachi and 4 others Thank this. -
There's a 13'5 bridge in Joliet IL you can go under at 13'6.
I stopped before the bridge and just sat there, cursing. There was no good option for getting turned around. GPS was telling me to go under.
The road looked relatively new paved. So I wasn't too excited about trying my luck.
A local driver in his POV pickup stopped next to me and told me that I will clear it, just go slow.
So thats what I did. Cleared it.LoSt_AgAiN and truckdriver31 Thank this. -
Marked height, unless marked exactly, has some tolerance built in.
Exactly 13 5 is a question mark, it will clear most trailers marked 13 6 but that measurement is marked a touch taller than is actual, from measuring several on 24.5 low pros and 22.5 low pros. New York was mentioned, the city measured clearance from the center of the axle. Not done enough in up state to know if that follows there, too.SoulScream84, x1Heavy and truckdriver31 Thank this.
