I was told to imagine the passenger naked and your driving with a friend and stay in the lines you will pass, was not even an option to imagine, it was some big fat ### guy.

It's 2020. Manuals are being killed faster than a 106 year old with Corona. Manuals are rapidly becoming extinct, thank god. Only good ole Bubba Ray with his camo hat and big beard will tell you to drive a manual because he is insecure with his manhood.

there's a lot of companies who don't use autos smaller companies normally dont have them or even some companies don't want them because they know there garbage compared to the older ones.

Never drove an automatic dump truck I guess its possible one out there. But most these construction companies save any dime they can so if the vehicle gets the job done they would put you in the most beat-up POS the first dump truck I drove had 2 sticks to drive in it still and no power steering. But they paid a ton of overtime. I was averaging 70+ work weeks those who stay in construction long enough and learn to pick up stuff can move up fast learn motor grade and surveying. After that you chose the direction you want to go.

Sure, if you're happy driving whatever somebody else buys you you'll think that way, when it's your money going to fixing stupid electronic gremlins you'll think differently.

All the freight slowdowns because of this virus, yet my miles at Swift have not changed.
2400 miles this week, which is right where I like it.

Many in those smaller companies are hurting though.

    It is no trouble really...
You mess up; no can gear, stop.
Restart from 1 and 1 and shift up.
or that is the way you did it with a MACK.

Just like learning any manual, you're going to get lost and not be able to find a gear at some point.

Around where I live the small mom and pop companies that really want to ensure they get quality drivers all run manuals. And most pay really well and have nice equipment.

If you just want to be a door slamming wheel holder then not knowing how to drive a manual isnt going to be a problem. But if you want to get into specialties like heavy haul, OSOW, Ag. Tanker/hopper bottom, livestock hauling, logging, or anything off the asphalt... Then you will absolutely need to know how to drive a manual to get the good jobs.
