I applied in March and told the recruiter upfront I needed a couple weeks to get my affairs in order as my wife is recovering from cancer. All is well at home now and I even told them I was looking at mid May to start. Then the shut down came and CDL testing stopped. As soon as it opened I got my permit and even did my DOT physical. Now the problem is finding a place that has its own CDL Examiners as the backlog is long in Missouri. Roehl was the answer as in Marshfield Wisc. they have an examiner and you do not have to wait for the troopers availability.
So I call Roehl and they tell me my recruiter will get back with me. Three days go so I call back. Now it is application closed and filled with another person, must wait until September. Isn't that a fine how do you do? I am glad I did not put in apps at the other companies and get the same deferment. It would be nice to know that if you apply and cannot leave within 48 hours you cannot reapply for 180 days. Any who it is their loss. I was beginning to like the opportunities and pay of mileage at Roehl more each day.
Now I need to find another inhouse training that has it's own CDL Examiners. I am not sure if I start at Truck Dynasty I will be able to get a drive test at the end of the class. The troopers I talked with said they anticipate a large backlog and testing starts Monday May 10th. I have been looking at Stevens, Schnieder, Wilson, and CFI. TO be honest I want to drive SOLO mostly in the lower states and it does not have to be a dedicated route. Refer or box would be great. I do not care about the speed of the truck or the color. A comfortable drivers seat, reliable rig, and few load delays. The rest I can manage.
I was a bit upset when the recruiter told me I had to wait until September, but I also know they have a job of filling spots. That disclosure along with "Drivers expected to be ready within 5 days of application" would be nice too. Open to suggestions for getting CDL. It will be easy for me as I have driven a 10 speed before and have many years towing experience. The basics are there, I just need the tips for doing it with a semi in their yards. My friend never drove a truck or a manual trans and did great. He never even backed a trailer before.

I've got no answers but your attitude seems good to me. Not being overly demanding as a new driver is important, and you haven't let the disappointment of the withdrawn job get to you or distract you.
Good luck, I think it will be roehls loss in the long run and I hope you're wife is on the up and up too.NavigatorWife, TripleSix, GrumpyJoe and 1 other person Thank this. -

My attitude is great. I love life and can walk past this Roehl thing without a problem. Hurt at first but an hour later I am moving on. Professionalism is important always. Even as "Just a Driver" we represent the company. I as a prospect must still do the same.
As for the wife, she is doing great too. She is not as strong as she used to be and wears out quickly. I needed some time to get a few backup plans in place for her while I am out driving. My son locked into a Walmart account with Crete so he will be home every Sunday. Two local kids and 3 local farmers will also be there to help my wife if she gets too far behind. Now that I also have my permit I am ready and so is she.
Wilson looks good. I will be talking with them today.NavigatorWife, george stanley, rachi and 1 other person Thank this. -

AAARRRRGGGGGGG at first I could not shut the recruiters up. Now that testing is open and I have my permit ready to go No One returns a call. I like Wilson and am waiting for a call. 3 messages left in 2 days. NADA..
Swift jokes have been way too much for me. I know not all Swift drivers suck but there are a few that make it look like it. Driving into any stop with a Swift LOGO and drivers run to their rigs. Maybe a bit exaggerated, but 3 drivers I know close say keep away.
How about it ChinaTown? Any other leads in SW Missouri? Is CFI good? Prime and Schneider are not taking new students for now. Stevens has sent me many messages but the reviews are combined between the one in Oklahoma and Dallas Tx. It is hard to tell if the Oklahoma company is good?
