I’ll just say this, from a technical standpoint the four wheeler was at fault. That said, if I was driving that tractor trailer accident never would’ve happened. Yes I would’ve sucked up my pride and slow down and allow the car in. And then probably airhorn him. Avoid accidents at all costs people. The four wheeler was an idiot, but we encountered these idiots all day every day. We can’t just smash into them because technically it’s their fault. Also, the tractor-trailer driver was following way too close to the truck in front of him prior to the illegal lane change of the four wheeler.

Truck did everything right and no highway closures needed. Just swap insurance with other driver. Download to show cop what happened and save copy of dash cam video and wait for the cars insurance company to call you and say they’ve taken 100% fault in this and how much they need to give you for damage. Been there.
Otherwise I guess he coulda overreacted, slammed on brakes, steered to left, jack knifed into the oncoming traffic and shutdown the highway for a day. Won’t go there.Doealex, HoneyBadger67, Bud A. and 2 others Thank this. -
Btw most dash cams make actual things look farther away from the vehicle than they are and they also make things appear like they are moving at a higher rate of speed than they are. Dash cams will also see things that are out of line of site of you were you sit. Things to think about when you woulda, shoulda, coulda something when weren't there in the captains seat.

Had almost the same thing occur to me in Arizona, except the car spit out the left side like squeezing a watermelon seed between your fingers and did multiple donuts in the median.

That said, I still don't understand why everyone, including truck drivers, are so willing to completely overlook the fact that the car changed lanes into the path of the truck when it was obviously unsafe to do so. And yes, the truck was accelerating and way to close to the pickup in front of it, but what about the car closing on the garbage truck? Why does everyone just throw the rules out because it's a four-wheeler vs. a truck? Why is it wrong to point out that the collision could have been at least as easily avoided by the car? Why don't the rules apply equally to cars and trucks? If this video showed a truck changing lanes into the front end of the car, would we all say, Oh, dang, that car was driving too fast and following too close!! The truck had his turn signal on!!
Personally I hope the driver of the car is so traumatized that they never, ever, get behind the wheel again. -
In a COE you can't even see a small blue sedan that hooks the door handle on the edge of the bumper. Ask me how I know.

I actually had something similar happen in Indiana. Car came barreling 3 lanes over on a merge as I was changing lanes. They clipped the plastic bumper on the 13 letter #### spreader I was driving and proceeded to gracefully pirouette around the front of the truck and into the concrete center divider.
Cops showed up, took statements, wrote the 4 wheeler a couple tickets and called a wrecker for the car.
