I just bought a new 3500 C/C truck for the business. For reasons that we don't need to go into here, I am driving it from the dealership to my home state. I will cross many states. Question is, since the truck is not in service yet (needs sleeper, 5th wheel fitment, etc.) but is in the business name, do I have to roll like an MC (DOT markings, drive service hours, stop in weigh stations and use ELD) or can i plop a "Not for Hire" marking (or no markings) on there and cruise like a civilian in his truck can?
I should mention the truck has a GVWR of 14000# and weighs 7300# give or take.
I should also mention that the dealership requires me to provide them a bill of lading (because it is a commercial sale). So, it is as if the company I own is shipping the vehicle to itself. Not sure if that triggers something.
PS Yes, I realize an empty C/C truck will require new fillings in my teeth once I get home.

The dealer should give you a paper tag, call and add it to you insurance then drive it home. You might need mud flaps. I would not bother to cross scales or any other signage.

I wouldn't worry about the other stuff as long as you have a valid temp tag and insurance info to show somebody. They'll see you drive by and realize it's a newly purchased vehicle. Trucks that size don't generally move on the ground in driveaway delivery like large truck tractors do.sabal_logistics Thanks this.
