Thought I’d share this, for all you newbies or just plain complacent and lazy steering wheel holders. Do your pretrip. This is from a trailer that a city guy took to get loaded and dropped in yard which I hooked to. The sight glasses on the hubcaps were so dirty I could tell nobody had checked them in a month or better. And look what I found!![]()

Pretrip your trailer!!

When the class of new drivers was asked what problem they see in the image, most said the left shoe had mud on it and needed to be wiped off before the person gets back into the cab so not to dirty the shag carpeting. The others who didn't answer were silent because they were trying to figure out what the round thing was.Just passing by, D.Tibbitt, tommymonza and 8 others Thank this. -
Yikes. Lotta drivers were lucky they didn't need to stop in a real hurry pulling that one
-
So what's the problem?
-
he @Dave_in_AZ was being funny...(he knew the problem)
i would have asked, did the driver have a PBJ and banana sammich first? (cuz i didn't see nuffin wrong.)D.Tibbitt, tommymonza, Bean Jr. and 3 others Thank this. -
Even if you don't see it, you should be able to smell that just by walking by.
Somewhere between Amarillo and the Texas/New Mexico state line a drive axle seal started leaking on my tractor. When I parked at Russell's in Glenrio for the night, I took my normal walk around the truck to do a post-trip. When I got to the rear drive, I could smell the hot, burnt oil and took a closer look and found the problem.D.Tibbitt, BigDog Trucker, tommymonza and 4 others Thank this. -
yes, the odor of the grease/oil is very pronounced. then too, the first driver got it there, and the heated grease/oil would have certainly permeated the surrounding area. he is/was an idiot for not writing it up. nothing more than a steering wheel holder.
i can recall many times walking into or out of truck stops, the odor of grease/oils, as i passed the parked rigs. it is as pronounced as the urine soaked pavement.Last edited: May 20, 2020
