so I'm pricing out new tires for my trailer and my tire guy is recommending steer tires on my spread axle flatbed. He said they hold up better then regular ol trailer tires for spread axles. Anyone heard this before?

All manufacturers have ‘high scrub’ application tires. I can’t remember what I put on my 53 spread - R183 seems to come to mind.

Yes they do, they also have more tread. I recommend 16 ply.

I run Chinese all position on my trailer, it’s a tandem so not as much scrub. I had a set of “long march “ brand and they had a real soft compound. I can’t remember the brand name of what I have now, but they are a lot harder compound.

I like that idea. That way, if you pick up a bolt in your steer tire, you have 8 more to use.

Back in the old days (in CA) there were quite a few outfits that ran steer tires in all positions.. but they sure didn't cost what they do now!
