Where to Throw Your Straps

That's a good idea.

It takes less time to throw more tie-downs than it does to try and fix a shifted load out on the road.

 

You can't have too many straps.

 

If you are hauling a trailer load of crates, butted up to each other. Throw two straps on the front crate and two straps on the rear crates. The crates in the middle, as long as they are butted up to the crate in front, can be secured with 1 strap. But if there's any space between a crate and one in front of it, that crate will require two straps.

 

The middle crates can only be single strapped if under 10’ long. Over 10’ you need a strap for ever ten feet or fraction thereof.

 

I haul treated poles up to 70 feet long on a 45 foot trailer. I just throw 2 straps within the first 5 feet then evenly space out 5 more straps for the remaining length of the trailer.

 

Unless them poles are hardup against a headboard, I'm thinking you are still one short & need 8 straps total.. 2 for the 1st 10'. That leaves 60', which requires 6 more straps..

Again this is moot is they are against a headboard..

 

The trailer is only 45 feet long. There are two ratchets within the first five feet on the trailer. The rest (five more straps) I space out about every six feet more or less. No headboard on the trailer.

The longest poles I have hauled were 60 feet long, about 7 feet over the front and 9 feet over the back of the trailer.

 

Trailer length is irrelevant, the other poster is correct, unless your load is against a qualifying headboard you need two straps for the first ten feet, and one strap for every ten feet or fraction thereof after the first 10’.
