The booklet is very well written and makes sense if you already understand the information, otherwise, not so much. Every few pages there is a "test your knowledge" section with a few questions.

Initially, go directly to the test your knowledge and read the first question, go back a couple of pages and find the correct answer. Once located, read that paragraph, then the paragraph before and after. By default, you will read the majority and it will be a little easier read. Repeat for all of the questions. After this is done, go back and study the sections you need from beginning to end, it will make more sense.

The general knowledge information is the same for any type CDL, just because information doesn't appear that it would apply to you in a tractor trailer, study it anyway. The test does not know what type of vehicle you are testing for and oddball questions come up. A great example is: How do you test hydraulic brakes for leaks? Means nothing on a tractor trailer but could be on the test.

Be very careful in section 5 and 6, these are very small sections packed with information (test questions). Once versed in the book, take practice tests here and other places, best to score 90% or above on practice tests so that you can score the mandatory 80% for your state.

Roehl has practice tests on their website.
There’s also a free CDL prep app (red one).

I passed all the tests after studying the above and look at me now - a dirtbag trucker!

The test is not hard just common sense you'd get it by guessing by the 2 or 3 time it tell you what you miss and the correct answers and I think they have a practice test on here

Take the sample quizzes on ttr. It is just common sense and safety first.

When you take the test don’t rush through, read through the questions and all the answers before selecting.

When me and my husband took the hazmat test he was upset because I passed and he didn’t. He was too focused on intricate stuff. It’s not that hard. They want safety first. Know how far you need to be away from a vehicle and where things need to be on the paperwork.
The lady at the dmv was impressed at my score.
