If you polish something I wouldn’t recommend acid wash. If you never polish something then acid wash does make it look better than nothing.

Acid wash makes the polishing easier, but isn’t necessary. I plan on doing mine soon. Might just clean them up with an sos pad first, since they’ve pretty much never been done. High speed grinder works wonders, Use yellow wheel, and red Rouge , then green Rouge. You can really get picky, and then use white polish and white cotton wheel. But it’s really not needed. A nice hand finish with a liquid polish and a terry cloth to get rid of any swirl marks. Then always cover them, when using acid. Keep them maintained with the liquid and terry cloth.

When I was so inclined to polish things like wheels and fuel tanks, I would start off by washing it, sometimes with acid (if it had cement on it) but more often than not I would just was it with Dawn Dish soap, then sand it out starting with 600 and working it up to 1800 to 2000, after sanding comes polishing, Should come up to a shine very quickly at this point, I would start with green rouge and then white finishing off by hand. should look better than chrome.
Rideandrepair Thanks this.
