I have this weird thing that's happened over the last two trips where the reefer will be running but the temperature goes up.
For example, today I had the reefer setpoint at -10F, I woke up and the reefer was running but the temperature was 5F. I turned it off and than back on and it started working normally again, no error codes or nothing.
It's a thermo king reefer. It was set to continuous as well. Any idea if this is normal or am I missing something in the operation?
Do reefers go into idle?

Might have been in defrost when you caught the higher than normal temp while set so cold.

It depends on how the parameters are set.
They have a high speed delay and another is basically the temp which it kicks into high speed.
Best just to write it up and get it checked out.Canadianhauler21 Thanks this. -

Yes, they do, if working right.

Probably just the defrost cycle. It’s perfectly normal and nothing to worry about. A lot of units have a light that turns orange or some kind of alert that will say it’s in defrost mode. Once it comes out of defrost mode you’ll see the temperature drop towards the set point again.

As others have already stated that’s definitely a defrost cycle. You don’t want that unit freezing up in there. You’ll get a code 10 and the thing will shut down completely and not run if the unit freezes up. It has sensors and goes into a defrost mode before this happens. Sometimes it takes a few minutes hence the temperature will rise a bit. But the unit knows it and it will quickly defrost and get the temperature back down.

Thanks everyone, I kinda figured it would be normal but I wasn't 100% sure. Looks like I can sleep well from now on. You guys have taught me more about reefers than my company has.

It should say on the screen "defrost mode" or something close to that. And probably dumping defrost water out the right side if the unit.
