I don't know how anyone can train either. I like my solitude too much for that. I didn't start driving this truck so I could be around people all the time.

Exactly. After a career in a different field putting up with people's B.S. all day long being away from people other than those at home was one of the reasons I started driving.

Its challenging no doubt. Especially when you have students like @packersfanmw87 like I did...lmao jk we had very few problems if any. Its just these other types(under 30 mostly in my experience) . No work ethic, lazy, and can't handle being told to do something without hurting their feelings, those are the 1s that burnt me out on training.

With that said there is alot of gratification seeing someone get their own truck and getting calls from them 2yrs later just to bs. Those are the 1s that made it worth it

Even with my last career I did 90% of it from home which I think is what got me acclimated to it. This is better, though, since I ain't looking at the same 4 walls every day.

I live right on the Ohio River and I've thought about maybe getting a job working on a rug. But then I would be stuck on a boat for days at a time with people that I probably won't like so that idea quickly fades.

Yup I picked up a load of beer heading to the boonies of Lynchburg Virginia. I don’t think I’d be a good trainer either. I was just hiding from the students while fueling at Eden lol

I started thinking about becoming a trainer the second week in my trainers truck. The guy taught me a lot give him tons and tons of credit. But there was absolutely no reason to be such a douche bag at times. He is a decent guy but his method of teaching ughhhhh!! I was also hearing horror stories from a couple of guys who were in my class.
When the time came I wanted to give it a shot. Still way early in the ball game to say if I’m a good trainer or a crappy one.
Pick up my third trainee on Friday.

I have nothing but respect for you training. I shouldn’t joke this way, but I had some Dot Foods PTSD flashbacks today of me driving in the Bronx. Delivering here at Blue Ridge Beverage and the uturn you have to make in their driveway is TIGHT! I got out and looked like 10 times. Inches away from cars parked in a bad spot. That wasn’t fun.

You worked out of the Liverpool,NY DOT Foods location? Or is there another one closer to the city?

Yup Liverpool. Dots a good company, just too much work. Driving on top of lumping is no fun. I think they had some remote day cab drivers in the city.

Initially I planned on going to NTTS and applying to DOT Foods when I started driving. Decided to go to Millis so I would have manual transmission experience but when I got here they were transitioning to all autos. I trained / tested on a manual but my trainer had an auto & I've always been assigned an auto. I worked a local job in between my 2 stints with Millis and had to drive a rental manual for about a month before I was assigned a permanent truck. That company is all auto as well. It was rough the first couple of weeks.
I've thought about DOT off and on because of their 4 on 4 off schedule and things like that. For whatever reason they require hazmat which I do not have and not really interested in getting.
