@lutzman did you ever get any kind of a warning from safety about logging too fast? I know it can sound silly, but carriers do make these warnings. It's not as common today with all the trucks having a governor on them. Still, the logging software most log depts use will flag logged speeds that go over the company maximum. Years ago my father got 2 or 3 of these warning letters a year. Another thing that was a problem for him was a tracking company (if I remember it right) called markel services. They were contracted to watch the drivers. I know several drivers that drove for his company at the time that was fired because of these reports. Just give my question some thought.

Most likely I misspelled that company. I am not even sure they are even in business today. I just know they bedeviled my father and a lot of the other drivers in the 70s and very early 80s.

Markel is still in business, they had spotters that would look for trucks insured by them

Athens GA, early 58, US 29, north bound, downhill. Markel stopped me.
Walked up in front of tractor and leaned on L F fender. Asked: how fast will this thing run?
Told him I did not know, never had it wide open. (23 yrs old, 34 ft bull rack with 15 sheep gated
up on the nose- Picked up in Lake Okeechobee. FL to deliver Lex,. KY.) Tractor was a 1956 IH v8
8 spd RR, 22 inch rubber. Fast car then. Anyway, he was concerned... had to get on 70 to catch me
and get alongside. Told him I truly did no know how fast I was going, had all my attention on the
road. He was interested in the tractor. Said he had run down a REO tractor or two that had that engine.
Cautioned me to slow it down, good dry road, no traffic congestion, no bad, just slow it down some.
We shook, he left. Report to boss: Truck #33 stopped, excessive speed, driver counseled and continued
    on.

Here's the thing, on the daily, I see drivers for these megas speeding down hills, ignoring other laws, failing to signal, you name it. When you call the safety dept. to report these things, that the "safety manager" doesn't see or is not reported by some recording device, you get blown off. I've called on drivers from these mega's before, Swift, CRE, Werner, CRST, Schnieder, etc., it's normal to see them ignoring the truck speed limit on I 70, the cops have apparently given up, so it's up to us to police our own, and the safety dept's don't give a rats. Two months ago I called in a Swift driver doing 60+ on Georgetown Hill, it's a 45 mph zone, he was in the left lane passing everyone, never once touched his brakes, luckily there was no traffic. Couple miles down the road I caught up and passed him, he's got his left foot propped on the dash and his phone in hand. I called in the truck number, trailer number, time of day, all the information they asked for, the "safety manager" or so he claimed to be, acted like I was interrupting his soap opera watching. Did they do anything, who knows, probably not.

A couple times I've called drivers in and quickly seen the company take some sort of action, maybe a QC message sent to the driver or their phone rings, but suddenly brake lights come on and the slow way down, despite there being no general need to, but those are the rarities.

Is it possible there is more to it than the OP is telling us, possibly, but, at the same time, does it just depend on who the mirror fogger in safety is, and do they have a "hard on" for a driver for no reason?

Actually quite a few of the commercial carrier insurance companies still do this, as to whether or not the driver finds out is up to the carrier. In the early 2000's, our insurance company used to do this a lot, I got two write-ups from them, one said I did everything perfect, then a few months later I got another one with a negative because I went through an intersection as the light turned from yellow to red. The letters seemed to lag about a week behind the incident. In the latter, I knew what they were talking about, and it was a judgement call, the insurance person didn't know what I was loaded with, and jamming on my brakes would have been worse they hitting the horn and going through the intersection.

Maybe he has that annoying collision mitigation system like ours.
It's radar reads speed and distance to about 600 ft.
Saw many 90+ today on I-94 and got my first 123mph by a WRX

    650cat425 Thanks this.
