Dad had 13 brothers and sisters. Dirt poor. Coffee was made trully in a pot, the same one used for cooking. The grounds were strained off, cream and sugar was added. Sometimes there was enough for everyone, sometimes not.

One thing no one did was complain. All their live's, all of them drank it with cream and sugar.

Helmet coffee or sauce pan coffee was done with out any straining. Get a pot, measure in the coffee, add water, bring to a boil, remove from heat, now pour in cold water, the cold water pulls the coffee grinding from the water and makes a mud on the bottom. Pour off the top. There is your coffee

Can we at least agree that paper filters and drip coffee makers has been a good step forward.

Yep. A 5.1 along the nc/va border. We have some friends in Asheville, and said it knocked stuff off the walls, etc. Not exactly common, but...it's the third in the last 10 years I think. We tend to keep our eye on the ocean those of us that live on the sandbar.

Only coffee worth drinking is with whiskey in it. I don't do coffee. The rare times I do it's black and strong. It's very rare though.

Ahh, the other half of the late night entertainment has awoken.

I don't really do coffee as said above, but...I'm willing to accept your write in of Potato skins. While they aren't exactly a fry, they are great. An yes the real thing is much better than the crap they serve in a lot of restaurants.

@Dave_in_AZ We will also accept the submission of Au Gratin potatoes. Again...not a fry, but they are great.

No! the paper filter soaks up some of the flavor oils. And I prefer my grounds to seep longer than in a drip.

A gold or stainless filter in a drip maker may be acceptable.

    Yes.

The coffee snob hierarchy in my world is:

    1. Americano
    2. French press
    3. Pour over
    4. Drip
    5. Skip coffee because they only have powered creamer
    6. Skip coffee because it looks gross
    7. Diet Coke because it has caffeine
    8. Handful of dirt
    9. Punch in the mouth
    10. #### I got a headache I need coffee.
    11-99 any other reason
    100. I’m still not drinking that burned crap Starbucks says is coffee.

Howard built junk. Some exec. decided they would be good to go with. Save money? High losses. Thrown together. Some bad things like welding rod stuck on bottom of tank. Sticking up into windings. Company insisted on them.
    Best transformers? ABB.
