I've been with Schneider for 8 months, new to the driving industry entirely, wanting to make it a year before finding a local job. However theres a lot of things that are getting under my skin here at Schneider, and most recently, a notice about my fuel compliance.

I have my own opinion about Schneider's navigation system, mainly that its setup to run us on routes with the least miles..... but take the longest to drive, the overall outcome is so that they don't have to pay us what we "COULD" be making.

In response I've resorted to taking routes that I know are quicker, but have more miles. I know I won't get paid those extra miles, but I'm not worried about that, as mentally I'm satisfied knowing my time isn't dragging on these backroads navigation wants to take me on.

Another reason I avoid the assigned stops is often times they are so close I really don't need them, and few times they are so far away I fear getting too low on fuel.

I'll also note that I do my best to fuel at companies they seem to have a partnership with..... Pilot, FlyingJ.... despite using a different stop.

The result of this is that most of the time my change in route does not lead me to the "designated fuel stop". Schneider claims that not following the fuel stops costs them money.

My question is, is there.... and what is.... the consequences if I continue this process?

If I were in your shoes I would quit this practice for a few 4 more months and then I would look for a new company to drive for that has a more laid back environment regarding fuel and routes.

Yeah, that thought has came across my mind, and is likely the action I will take, but still want to know the answer to my question. Haha

Well in my year there,I ran the turnpike nonstop. After getting stiffed out of 2 fuel bonus. And played on my 3rd the truck wasn’t shut off the rest of the year. And I fueled at whatever pilot I wanted soon as I knew I could get 50 gallons in the tank and get a point bonus at pilot. The first fuel bonus I was told my start date was 6 days to short of being eligible for the bonus, second time was when they were switching over from Qualcomm’s to tablets, my truck was in the shop every other day because my tablet wouldn’t work so I made no money on top of them saying oh it should work despite it not. It wouldn’t connect to the hos program or the new program to get work. But it could somehow tell I was “over speeding”(doing 63 with my foot still on the pedal) so I had to call into the office to get my work and run on paper logs for about 2 months and despite me telling them I could get fuel stops even walking the trash tablets into the office and letting them toy with it and my score being a 5 before all of this mess I was told multiple time cause I was on them about it that it would get fixed. So I ended the qtr with a 3 and was told sorry nothing we can do. 3rd qtr I sent them messages of my idle time and nothing change. So after that I only shut the truck off to fuel, home timeand unload(bulk). Dbl called with the “I noticed your idle time was high blah blah blah” just yes’s them to death and kept the truck running. I stopped answering the phone when they called. They left some messages with the “I just wanted to check on you” but my only contact with them became if I was in the lobby doing laundry when in Gary and they just happened to leave the office. As bulk we were supposed to shave everyday and wear long sleeves I remember walking into the office after a morning shower and having them complain about my shortsleeves and shorts and my response being dude it’s 10am why am I not dispatched and moving. But i knew all the office folks left at 5 so unless it was after five I didn’t bother with terminals.

also during that 2nd qtr I was on and off paper logs cause of the tablet I like paper logs. Just don’t like that dot doesn’t like drivers with tablets still on paper logs

Its costing you 1 cent per paid mile.

Once you get on "your" route, at your next stop, request a new fuel solution and it will update navigo with a new fuel stop.

If a designated fuel stop is convenient, stop and fuel even if you don't need fuel. If you do fuel "non compliant", just put in 50 gallons. You should be able to get a compliant stop on the next load.

Believe it or not, there is a huge difference between following the optimizer and not. Just east of Louisville KY there are two Pilots at the same exit on I64. Despite having the same price on the sign, there is usually a .45 per gallon difference between the two.

You only need to hit 90%, so it is doable without any real effort or sacrifice. Some annoyance, but not much.

I have a slight problem with that too but maybe it was just me, I’ve been ding’d for using newly requested fuel stops before more than once. In instances where I was dispatched and the fuel solution was 20 miles from my start location but I was dispatched over 700 miles. Happened more than once

If you continue to break the rules after you have already been warned not to, then you can expect to face disciplinary action, up to and including termination.

They still on the shaving kick I see.
I went off on someone in Gary while it was snowing, I was watching the weather and was eating, some lady asked then what I thought of their workflow system they had just put on the QC on bulk, when I told her it sucked and didn’t work half the time, she told me I needed to shave, all my shirts were long sleeve, or I’d have had a shortsleeve on.
I told her I was on my time, was a week late on getting my home time after 2.5 months, and if she didn’t like it she could

1, send me home on suspension, then at least I’d be home, done missed thanksgiving and my birthday stuck in Gary.
    2.Mind her own dang business.

She left, and the “driver services/fuel desk” guy said she was from the mothership (Green Bay if you didn’t know) and I shouldn’t have said that.

I told him I was off duty and on my time, if she didn’t like it, she should pull her big girl panties up and learn to quit mouthing off to people she didn’t know.

I quit not long after that.
It had changed a lot then.

Way back when I drove for them (2003-2006), I just did whatever I wanted. I was on a pretty valuable regional account, so maybe we got extra leeway? I don't know.

Got all my bonuses. Never heard a complaint. But this is also before Big Brother truly got into trucking surveillance.

Yea man same my last few months I was ecolab dedicated-(good office people) but couldn’t be bothered with all these rules 24/7..They do a good job of breaking down what the chemicals are and you’ll know if you need a mask...100% of the customers that I’ve dealt with when At Schneider 1.couldnt care less if you had a beard, 2. Had a big bushy beard themselves. Long sleeves are understandable cause you don’t want to get nothing on you but that’s only the 2 hours every other day you were unloading. And with ecolab I had that pickle suit on everytime.... I thank god it was fall/winter time when I got on it
