Sun Coast Resources has camera facing both ways, dispatch/safety can watch in real time, whenever they choose too.

I have been driving for a company with driver facing camera for six years, its not that bad really & it benefits the driver in the long run. It`s no different than working on the floor in a plant or working at your desk in the office .

The camera is in your space not like a warehouse or office. No one else but drivers would take this ####. Outward facing I'm all for it, but in the cab no.
Ok it can help you in an accident; possibly in your benefit!
But people in this world we live in will just be spying on you for ####s and giggles.
Even the third party companies (contracted to monitor) watch drivers and laugh at them, good source of entertainment around the office. -
I forgot when I noticed that some places have more cameras on the cashiers than they do on the exits. -
Jarhed1964, RockinChair and UturnGirl Thank this.

All ATS trucks have cameras. Thankfully they are forward facing only and the shop has placed a sticker over the driver facing lens as reassurance I guess.
When they first installed them they told the drivers it was a coaching tool. We would get emails when we tripped the camera and it fit safeties parameters for a coaching event. Our FM also received the same video. After so many videos you would get a call from dispatch and receive the "we have to improve" speach. It was only used against the driver when the drivers behavior was egregious or absolutely refused to correct bad habits.
Then they announced a new point system to the mix. Now videos would receive points. There is a scale now or stages. After so many points you get a verbal warning, so many more a written warning, the next level some other measure than final warning. It's supposed to be on a 30 day rolling window.
What has pissed a lot of drivers off is being lied to about the intent of the cameras. They waited until after the last truck had the system to announce the punitive aspect.
To add insult to injury the cameras are tied to the Collision Mitigation System which is not exactly accurate on following distance nor consistent in the distance. Sometimes it's. 5 seconds off, sometimes it's 1.3 seconds off. You'll do a visual count, one one thousand - two one thousand, etc. and think you're OK, but the camera will record a following distance event saying you're too close. No one seems interested in rectifying this.foggy and Speed_Drums Thank this.
