Trailer has no chute overhead?

If you are looking at that used, get a thermal image of that patch. Good odds you will have a hot spot there that will cause claims in the future.

(An easy way is simply have the seller cool the inside and you shoot it with an infrared thermometer in several places around and on the patch inside and out when you go to look at it.)

 

Looks like those two round silver objects in the ceiling are lights. That may preclude having a chute. Might have been spec'ed for special purpose that didn't require a chute.

 

You should always be able to install a chute. Look for turnbuckle on the bottom lip of the rectangular hole where the air comes out of the unit. Those are for attaching (particularly detaching easily when removing the unit) the chute. I had a trailer for 17 years with no chute. I never had a load claim, but I primarily hauled potatoes and beer. I did haul other produce occasionally. You just have have to be cautious and let customers know up front there isn't a chute-and confirm with a shipper!! Don't trust when a broker when he says bo chute is fine. You might be driving only to not get loaded. Been there, done that.

 

Never have had a chute... Haul mostly potatoes but have also hauled eggs, and ice cream without any problems

 

BTW...you can always set the unit to run on high cycle for increased air flow and circulation into rear and floor

 

Never had a chute either doing food service. We hauled plenty of frozen back hauls back to the warehouse w/o any issues

 

I am surprised shipper would be picky about cabbage. It is a hearty vegetable-not so air flow sensative, like potatoes. One problem with no chute is temp coming out of the unit-when set at 34-36 degrees-is below freezing around 25 degrees. It can freeze the top layer of the first 2-3 rows of pallets of some produce. Cabbage isn't one of them. It can withstand below 15-20 degrees.
