Snackbar's new adventure at Moore Freight Services

I think they were just in Moore trucks and they didn't renew the service when we changed to ND plates(my plate and registration show they were effective 8/31/20). Kinda stupid of them if you ask me. They castrate the speed, power and idle on the trucks to save fuel, then cut off the Prepass so you have to pull in to every open scale, thus burning extra time and fuel a half dozen times a day. But, we're talking a ND run company, so they know it all, and are the authority of all things in their perview..

 

What is it with these hurricane names? Isaias, Nana, Sally, Teddy, Vickey, Wilfred. Those names don't sound dangerous...they sound like neighbors who invite you over for a BBQ.

 

Did some math yesterday after I shut down. In the 7 days since leaving home I have 3598 logbook miles...and this includes 2 short days on Weds and Thurs. I have 4 total hours on my 70, and I have to deliver south of LA and get out somewhere that doesn't charge an arm and a leg to park...no easy task. I haven't heard from my DM, so I have no clue as to which direction I am headed once empty, I personally hope it's back east because CALI SUCKS!!!!

 

You know the location you're delivering to is tight when you and the forklift driver have to play 'slide tile' with dumpsters so you can round the corner to get to the other side of the building to back in a tight crane bay, and this is with a 45' double drop....guess this why we get paid the big bucks ...the average Swift or CRE driver would either tear crap up or piss their panties if they had to deliver to places like this.

 

The customer in Corona was one of the tighest I been to in the states. I've been to tighter in Canada, but being as this customer had a fairly new building, you think it would have been built a little more accessible for delivering.

And there was a big rail for some type of equipment on the driver's side that you had to watch how you backed over or else you'd pop a tire.

On a positive note though, they were quick at unloading. They had 2 of us out of there faster than some places get one truck unloaded. And having someone ahead of me used enough time so that there was almost no traffic leaving. I managed to get to the Petro north of the Grapevine with 35 left on my 70. After it was all said and done, I had between 3750 and 3800 miles on the odometer in 8 days, most of it loaded with 45k+ lbs. I was originally set up on one last run out of Lathrop, a 2 stopper back down in the LA area that loaded Monday, delivering Tuesday, then out of Cali. There was a Wally at the Corona customer's exit, but since I was gonna have a weekend off, and a Wally was close to the Lathrop plant, I decided to wait, which was a mistake. After I got shut down for the day, they pulled the 2 stopper off me and decided to send me to a plant outside Fresno to swap empties then head to Spring Hill, which I didn't mind at all. So, I drop my Moore double drop, pick up a Wylie flatbed, and head back out of Cali. I'll hit the truck friendly Wally in Gallup tomorrow. Since I am not currently carrying my snow chains, and Colorado has been a bit harsh on us lately, I will run the southern route across 40 to Tucumcari then up thru KS that way instead of up thru Vegas and across 70.

On the way up the Grapevine, I got an interesting call from my DSS (Driver Support Specialist which is Wylie's name for a DM). He called to see if I had chosen my driver appreciation gift online yet. He said if I hadn't, he was suppose to assist me in choosing, and if I refused to choose one that he was supposed to choose one for me...another words, we were gonna be appreciated, like it or not(my words, not his). I guess he has some drivers who are more disgruntled than me that refused their lame token gifts. I told him I had already selected one, but I said that I wouldn't tell him what I plan on doing with it. When he asked what I meant by that, I said 'the less you know, the better... plausible deniability, ya know'. But I assured him it was nothing dangerous, nothing illegal, and would make a lasting impression. Plus, it wouldn't get him into any trouble with the company. He understood and left it at that.
