Decker Truck Lines

orientation - this part isn't to bad, it takes 4 days to complete. It could take half that if the instructor and the company had their stuff together, and we did spend hours over the 4 days with the instructor not only allowing the "this one time" guy who is in every class disrupt the class every 10 min but he (the instructor himself) was also a "this one time" one upper. Food is provided for all meals, the hotel is "meh". They will also have you sign what is more or less a 6 month contract. If you leave before then you pay orientation cost back to them.

Out On The Road - The trucks they have are mostly Peterbilt's, all the trucks have a fridge, microwave, and apu but the pete's have a 32 inch tv and direct tv.

The loads are awful, you will have 3-4 days to deliver a load that could be done in 2 most of the time. Every now and then you'll get one that is timed correctly. I was out 3.5 weeks and in that time I sat long enough for a 34 hour restart on 3 different loads. This is why they offer the 1,000 grantee. The first few days out my APU started shutting off after 5 min of running so at night, I just lay there sweating my ### of and getting no sleep. I contacted dispatch numerous times with no response. I finally took it upon myself to let night dispatch know after my current load delivered I was putting the truck in the shop. I was close to terminal so all was good, 26ish hours later I was told trucks good and I was given a load that picked up in 2 hours and was 1.5 hours away so I got in and left. Waiting to get loaded I tried the APU A/C......Same Problems, nothing was fixed.

So I started messaging breakdown and dispatch again, told to deliver load and get in a thermo king. So that's is what I do, only thermo king says it may take a day or 2 to get it fixed. Breakdown doesn't want to do that, told to try after next load. No thermo king close on next load. Meanwhile some nights the truck would idle but most I was just screwed. Cold front comes thru, its below 50 and guess what controls the bunk heater. APU shuts off 20ish min into running bunk heater.

This is just a small taste of what I dealt with at Decker, the communication there is ABSOLUTLY HORRIBLE. No one responds to anything in a timely or professional manner. They make you sign a contract for a reason, they are having trouble keeping drivers because of their poor treatment of drivers.

I quit after a month, I sent in 4-5 messages in a 2 day span asking where they wanted the truck dropped off at. I would have taken it anywhere they asked but guess what......no response. I get the last check stub and was charged 1,700 for truck recovery.

So if you like to be scammed, sit for days, have unresponsive dispatch, and live off a 1,000 if you meet the terms to earn the guarantee. This is your kind of place.

No I was a reefer driver

They told us if we planned on quitting call and get an authorized location, may or may not be a terminal. I did get ahold of someone and she gave me a location, so the truck recovery was reimbursed.
