This is the 2nd 70+ year old driver involved in a serious/fatality crash lately...perhaps we need to start retesting the elderly CDL drivers after 70
If anyone has delivered to the Dollar General or Walmart D/C's in Alachua, FL, this is the intersection you turn at to get to them...

Just because someone is 70 years old that doesn’t mean they have years of driving a big truck. It also doesn’t mean that they were a good driver to start with.

How does that have anything to do with the dump truck running a red light

Statistically the oldest drivers are safer. I don't mean 90 but sure, well in to 70's. Ask your insurance agent. They are the cheapest to insure and that means the safest. No two ways about it.

After a certain age your reflexes slow, your reaction time slows, your thought process slows, your eyesight fades. Heck, I am in my mid-50s and can tell a difference from when I was in my early years of driving. There is a reason elderly car drivers are often time the ones who hit the gas instead of the brake and mow down pedestrians or make a drive thru in a building that wasn't there before..

The way I see some people drive regardless of their age it must not be even on their mind the thought of glass, steel, aluminum, hot fluids, penetrating their bodies until it's too late, or causing someone's demise, or a whole family for that matter. And for what? Rushing to get a load of paper towels to the grocery warehouse where you're going to sit anyway regardless of being on time or not, or trying to be some kind of hero to your dispatcher because it was a "hot" load and you were just the guy for the job. Way too many distractions these days. I have no need to speed, I just enjoy the ride. The load gets there when I get there.
