Drivers may record meal and other routine stops, including a rest break of at least 30 minutes intended to satisfy 49 CFR 395.3(a)(3)(ii), as off-duty time provided:

    1. The driver is relieved of all duty and responsibility for the care and custody of the vehicle, its accessories, and any cargo or passengers it may be carrying.

    2. During the stop, and for the duration of the stop, the driver must be at liberty to pursue activities of his/her own choosing.

    Need be on duty.

Communicate everything via text or ELD to your dispatch. Tel them you cant do it. If they try to force you call 911 state police. Your dispatcher will be arrrested and taken out in handcuffs.

Imagine, you are fatigued no hours left and cant properly drive a vehicle. You can wipe out a family or heaven forbid a law officer on the road. You are wielding an 80000 pound GVW capacity vehicle. Can you imagine what would happen if you dozed off and your vehicle struck a car, police officer, pedestrian etc....

    Its no joke out there.

Call 911, have him arrested. Then file an FMCSA complaint online.

Holy man, he didn’t say his dispatch told him to PC. Or to drive tired. Only told him to come back to yard empty and start his reset.

Are you the same guy that calls 911 when McDonald's messes up your order?

I can most certainly bet an officer would attend.........and tell you to stop misusing 911. This is the most ridiculous thing I’ve heard yet.

The 14 has nothing to do with on duty or off duty times. It is simply a mechanic to keep companies from doing even worse things to driver sleep patterns.

When they devised the 14 hr thing, some of the idiots at the FMCSA thought that would keep all of the truckers are a steady schedule. 14 hrs on 10 hrs off = 24 hrs. They actually said that in some interviews in 2003 when trying to explain the rationale behind the new, soon to be implemented (January 2004) rule. That the rule would match the circadian rhythm of the drivers. They really didn't have a clue that a truckers schedule may flip flop all over the place.
And they were more tuned to the needs of the industry than the morons that are running it now. Sad.

Aye, I do not know the whole history behind it, but it is pretty clear that the 14 hour clock was designed to work with the 10 hour clock to keep driver schedules from going full retard.
