If a woman is truly in an abusive relationship? They will put a black spot in the palm of their hand. The trucker is supposed to invite them in and call the cops.
The black mark is their silent way of asking for help. It was a story that was on CDLlife.

There’s a lady in Calera Alabama at a small fuel stop that carries a new gas jug, nicely dressed, with her daughter.. the kid is like 6 or 7, anyway the story is
She’s been out looking for a job in Birmingham, which isn’t but about 20-25 miles away, but she ran out of gas and lives like 3 miles away, could you give her $20 for gas.
I seen here there several times over last 4-5 years, always the same story.
But it is those stories which make you reluctant to help anyone, because figure they’re going to be laughing all the way to bank.
I usually turn their story, if they come up to my truck and ask for food, I’ll tell them I got some bread and potted meat, usually they say, “I’m not eating no potted meat,”
So then you aren’t hungry, is my reply.
I seen a guy with his bags packed, and had that homeless smell that even I could smell going at the pilot in West Memphis,
Said he needed money for a sandwich.
I was feeling generous, so I told him to come on inside and get whatever he wanted at the Wendy’s.
He didn’t know what to get, and ended up with the 4x4 Jr bacon burger, fries, 4 nuggets and a drink.
So we got the stuff, I told him good day, and he asked if I needed my tires or wheels shined or anything he could do to help.
My response, just remember this and when you get back on your feet, and see someone in need help them out.
Shame is that was a few years ago, I’ve not seen one person that actually needed help since, I usually run the same area and the same people are always there.LoSt_AgAiN, Midwest Trucker, D.Tibbitt and 7 others Thank this. -
Potted meat like slow cooker? That's the most tender and tastes good.

I used to run to layover a weekend in Denver from time to time. Would exit I 70 at Peoria ST and go down to a Super8 with truck parking. Was always a guy at the end of the ramp with a sign begging. I was actually going to give the guy some money one day but the light changed and I couldn't. Then a little later I walked to the package store across the street with one of our drivers. This guy walks in with a backpack with his sign sticking out and tells the clerk "the usual". He sets a pack a smokes and a fifth of cheap vodka one the counter and says "You're early today". Guy comes back with "Yeah, I had a good morning today."
It's like this was the guys regular job. Though I have to give it to him, he would be out there in every kind of weather. I guess he didn't want to lose his spot.LoSt_AgAiN, D.Tibbitt, Speed_Drums and 4 others Thank this. -
Was at the Flying J in Dallas one morning about a year ago and a dude asked me for money......I didn't give him any and walked on.
When I got to my truck my Angel asked me, "man, you make all of this money. What would have hurt to give the dude a dollar?"
After that, I never turn anyone down. I don't give to the folks standing on the off ramps, but if someone walks up to me and asks, I'll always give. Because you never know. It might be a scam, or it might be legit. Either way, it's only a dollar.
Always listen to your Angel.LoSt_AgAiN, InTooDeep, Midwest Trucker and 10 others Thank this. -
Ellsworth Maine gets its fair share of pan handlers. After a TV interview panhandlers now will walk half a mile or more to their shiny cars.

On the flip side. If I see some one thumbing for a ride I will give it to them. Sometimes even give them a ride to their door. Hitch hiking here can be real bad. I feel for those that are thumbing in dead of winter.
