How to shift a 18 spd correctly

To help us know where to begin explaining, what transmissions have to operated before? Ever run a 13 speed or a super 10?

 

There are a few youtube videos on the web. If pull up one even for a 13, it will be about the same.
15 on the dash, basic same principles.

Oh I like a 15 over!

 

Just shift it like an 8 speed and each gear can be cut in half. Low and high. Nothing to it.

 

Depending on empty or loaded I start in 2nd or 3rd low. Work up to 4th, flip the range selector, to the 5 hole, then 6 obviously, and at 7 I then split that up, hit the splitter back down for 8th, then split up for the big sprocket and let er rip. Idk if that’s the answer you’re lookin for as far as “correctly or proper”, but that’s how I do it. You play around with your own technique you’ll get it down what’s comfortable to you, and your truck.

 

Drive it Like a 9 speed until it's in 9th gear...Then flip the little lever on the left forward and push the clutch in 2 or 3 inches ...

 

H pattern 1234-5678... driving it like that there’ll be about a 400-500 rpm drop between gears. 18 speed each gear can be split... you don’t need to worry about splitting 1234 unless heavy heavy. And only need to split 5678 if loaded but you’ll get a feel for that when driving and when you’ll need to. When splitting there’s only about a 200-300 rpm drop.. to split to the high side of a gear while on the throttle push the button forward let off the throttle then get back on it. To split to to low side of a gear(downshift) same process except you won’t be on the throttle to start. Low rpms slide the button back then back on throttle. If you are loaded and splitting up the gears, when you go to next gear you want enter on the low side(button back) cause shifting from let’s say 5h to 6h is essentially shifting a whole gear. If splitting you’d want 5l to 5h then 6l to 6h and yada yada yada...downshifting is gonna be fun till you figure out what the truck likes

@Coffey don’t let overthinking paralyze you. Manual transmission is a manual transmission. Disengage match rpms for next gear engage.
