Is my plan viable?

I’m currently getting furloughed from my career and looking at a career change. I’m starting CDL school next week and want some advice on my overall plan.

Recruiter says I’m a boy scout with my resume, driving record, and complete lack of criminal history.

Home time is important but I’m used to being gone for 3-5 days at a time so he recommended going flatbed, which sounds fun because I need physical activity!

My plan is to drive flatbed for awhile and try to start driving fuel trucks after that. I heard these guys are mostly home every night and make good money.

So the general idea is, flatbed for a year, fuel truck after that. Is this possible or does it typically take more to get a job like this?

based on browsing the internet it seems these guys are home every night, don’t lug around kegs of beer, and still make good money.

 

Sure have and it mostly seems positive. Just a lot to wade through and trying to get a general bearing on what I should shoot for if I eventually want to be home most nights and not throw out my back lugging booze around.

I was under the impression that tanker jobs are highly desirable and it’s tough to get in.
