I’m currently getting furloughed from my career and looking at a career change. I’m starting CDL school next week and want some advice on my overall plan.
Recruiter says I’m a boy scout with my resume, driving record, and complete lack of criminal history.
Home time is important but I’m used to being gone for 3-5 days at a time so he recommended going flatbed, which sounds fun because I need physical activity!
My plan is to drive flatbed for awhile and try to start driving fuel trucks after that. I heard these guys are mostly home every night and make good money.
So the general idea is, flatbed for a year, fuel truck after that. Is this possible or does it typically take more to get a job like this?
Is my plan viable?

Why flatbed then move to fuel? If u wanna be a fuel hauler then start with tanker....

Dont trust any recruiter , if he suggests flatbed, its because he was told to find flatbedders

Yes tanker work would be more valuable to your goal of fuel hauling then flatbed work. That is if you can find what your looking for as stepping stone for now.

Maverick was a good flatbed company, They’ll teach you the maverick way, but you’ll know load securement when they turn you loose.

I was under the impression that tanker jobs are highly desirable and it’s tough to get in.stuckinthemud Thanks this.
