you can potentially hurt an old mechanical If you keep it fueled with jakes on. No one shifted with jakes back then because of this. Too risky. The old mech engines would smoke white with Jakes on because they still had a few more cc’s of fuel flow even at idle.
The first few generations of jakes were straight hot wired by on off toggle switch. No throttle or clutch activated cut off switch to override.Hammer166, God prefers Diesels, randomname and 3 others Thank this. -

Since a very small % of trucks had Jakes back in the ancient days and mostly rare up into the 90’s. West coast was really the only place that had them for a long while. This decal actually meant the driver had some prestige.
Cummins didn’t install them at the factory until the electronic N14 came out. They were aftermarket or dealer installed only. Cummins wouldn't warranty engines with them for decades.spindrift, Hammer166, God prefers Diesels and 2 others Thank this. -
