A potential competitive design in the Szorenyi rotary engine could make for some interesting things in the future. A lot of technical papers out on it. Popular Mechanics is about the only source for a basic overview. Szorenyi Rotary Engine Design | New Rotary Engine Design

you can potentially hurt an old mechanical If you keep it fueled with jakes on. No one shifted with jakes back then because of this. Too risky. The old mech engines would smoke white with Jakes on because they still had a few more cc’s of fuel flow even at idle.
The first few generations of jakes were straight hot wired by on off toggle switch. No throttle or clutch activated cut off switch to override.

Log haulers wired the jake switch to the stick shift. Handy.

38A3316A-3A6F-4694-82E1-954B190EAF3B.jpeg Since a very small % of trucks had Jakes back in the ancient days and mostly rare up into the 90’s. West coast was really the only place that had them for a long while. This decal actually meant the driver had some prestige.
Cummins didn’t install them at the factory until the electronic N14 came out. They were aftermarket or dealer installed only. Cummins wouldn't warranty engines with them for decades.
