Thats exactly the reason I'm putting it on the table here.

Also the wife works as well, so its not just my income into the pot to cover the household items.

Right now I do construction equipment on a drop tail. Backhoes, loaders, excavators. Not a bad gig, but most companies out here run their own units. Vegas has a big aggregate/gravel/dirt niche. Most of that is run by independents running clapped out equipment held together with duct tape, paper clips, and dog slobber for grease (no scales or inspection stations around unless you leave city limits, and those are only open 20% of the time) or large scale union paving companies.

We are not tied to Vegas and are thinking about relocating to NC. Easier to get a house out of state if I have income proof for 6 months. So I either go into my own rig for a while and prove income or I'll have to go company driver at an OTR company to get the paystubs.

    Thanks for reaching out @Money-Mike

I’m a master of the dark arts, and have performed a 5 card spread dealing with your questions. I specialize in “The Mystic Trucker”.

Though these readings normally require your consent, I simply passed a fresh Benjamin over the deck prior to consulting with the higher powers. I hope you don’t mind.

    The results were as expected.

The ‘OLD HAND’ position tells you must run away from the emissions junk motors, and consider well maintained used equipment.

The ‘ MY WIFE SAYS’ position reveals you must maintain W2 employment in order to apply for a future mortgage, as all 1099 individuals are crushed at the application stage for mortgages.

The ‘ MY CURRENT 20’ position is murky. My cat scratched at the 3rd deck railing from the right, and whilst the meaning is unclear, also leads me to believe your future is lacking in certain direction.

The ‘INFLUENCE IN MY LIFE’ position clearly indicates that you seek consult upon the gods of trucking, and that you have found the correct source.

    The ‘OUTCOME OF ALL THIS’ position, is that . . . Wait, I feel . . . Must rest . . . I . . . I . . .

This is one of the smarter newcomer posts I’ve saw on TTR in a long time. Do your own thing. Business and family I know from a really bad experience, doesn’t work.

Go out on your own, especially if you don’t mind running OTR or home weekends. I like that you are ok with relocating to another part of the country. The fact you have more money tucked back, earmarked for other things is a good sign.

If you go used try and get something new enough to have the Cummins X15 in it. Especially if you like the T680’s. Check out the Cummins Encore XT1 2nd owner warranty thru factory Cummins.

If you get your own authority and have a knack for this stuff, with time your Dad will be trying to sign up and piggy back off YOU vs you them.

Listen to Pomp podcast 385 on youtube, the interview with Michael Saylor.

Then get an account on the Gemini exchange, the one that's associated with the Winklevoss twins. Take your 50k and buy Bitcoin and watch your net worth grow over the next year and beyond and you can use your profits to buy a truck. Use your bitcoin as collateral to self finance your business etc.

    Beat me to it.

If the OP anticipates an influx of foreclosed homes in the foreseeable future, a lender is going to want to see W2 income vs new 1099 income.

Unless you are planning on living in a rural area or find an unlisted deal, if there are widespread foreclosures, the private equity, and large home rental outfits will not only outbid you but make your offer look unattractive when they are paying with cash.
